twice on the same post, most offensive thing i ever read, most offended i ever felt in my life, but i was told to suck it up and just accept it.. the guy who wrote it is the only one populating my ignore list too, seems like he's dead now..

Never touched that button, because so far I haven't really seen anything that would be..that bad. Spam and such get handled so fast on here, and don't seem to be so frequent that I never encountered any.

Basically, my report button is still a virgin.

I've used it to report spam. I recently used it because a new member posted his e-mail address. I wasn't sure if this new user knew how to remove a post so I used it to inform the mods that they should delete the post to protect him.

Anyone remember Tnerb? Right before he got permabanned, his "friend" signed up and threatened to hunt me down and kick my ass. I used it on him. Not because I was legitimately worried, but because he was a bitch, and the thread at hand was getting way out of control.

Other than the above reasons, I've not used it and probably wouldn't.

I might once have reported the email thing as well. Just to prevent possible problems.
These days I would just leave the person a message on their user wotsit.

Some people deliberately put their contact information in their user file.
Not a great idea I think. We have some strange people stopping by here.

  9. I use it for things that aren't good enough to qualify such as off-topic posts. Then after having done it I realize it wasn't a good enough reason.

The report post button is there for extreme breaches of site policy, things like spam, illicit activities, serious cases of abuse etc.

Some members are notorious for spamming the report button for every minor insurrection which in turn means moderators get caught either being overzealous in handing out warnings (or temporary banning's) in certain heated discussion threads or it can be assumed that the most troubled of reporters can end up seemingly ignored. ("Cry wolf too many times and see who comes running?")

Perhaps the Ignore feature should be more present, it would be like the Sciforums equivalent of a Facebook "like" button.

Some days far more than others. One day we might only get one or two reports, another day we might end up with 10+ (usually from the same poster). It's not a huge amount when you consider the number of posts that occur on a per day basis.

National Association of Christian Athletes. Very Good organisation.

I only put people on ignore to prevent my bad temper from taking control.
I reported one person when they threatened to kill me.
He was French, and I think he said he'd love to cut me into little pieces, though that could be my bad translation.
Maybe he was saying he loved me to pieces.

Another person had a mental problem and needed care.

The ignore buton an the report buton are very good tools when used properly as per you'r examples.!!!

About 7 years ago in a forum... a nutty guy who used to be a 7th grade science teecher hated me an tryed to cause me real life harm by makin libelous claims about me to my ISP (we had the same ISP)... but he did his-self in... they cancled his service by "smokin" his internet device (Webtv).!!!

What's the point in reporting someone, unless they are doing something criminal,
or something that could cause harm.
No-one is going to be able to intervene and sort out your interpersonal problems.

Person A is having a spat with person B. Person B reports A to Mod C.
What's the mod expected to do? Ban one of you?
Either sort it out or stop arguing.

If you find that another person's posts are annoying you to the point where you are losing your temper,
put them on ignore for a week or two. Tell them.

Then remove the ignore, and see how things go.

That's all very well, but if someone is annoying me, chances are he's annoying others and making a point of doing so and nothing else besides. So as a civic duty, I would report such a person. It's is up to the mods to warn or reprimand him in some way.

You can't put yourself in the role of solving everyone's problems.
That person might have as big a problem with you as vice versa.
If the person is just interested in stirring things up and antagonizing people,
then the ignore button is the best way of dealing with it.

If necessary, put the person on permanent ignore, though that shouldn't be necessary.

    Added later.
I've just cleared my ignore list.

Never, i just ignore people whom would target my posts, or trolls.

    Thats the mods job.

Cool...now I can feel free to insult, and torment you...

Not saying I ever will, but I now feel free to...

You'll never know when it's gonna happen, and then, BOOM.

    Zero on this site.
As i see it; this is a communication-site, and reporting would imply i couldn't make my point with logical argumentation.
