I recently got a pet crow named Ricardo from one of my neighbors. Now, for some reason, I always want to search up the amount of chromosomes each of my pets have (my dog has 78, my cat has 38, etc.), but I looked all over the internet and I couldn't find anything! Is it just not a popular topic, or do biologists not even know yet? I asked my neighbor, too, and their pet supplier, but they found nothing. Does anyone else know?
Crows are counted as Passerines, perching or song-birds. I can't find out exactly how many chromosomes crows specifically have, but typical Passerines have a haploid number of 40. Which is 80 Chromosomes. see http://www.biomedcentral.com/1471-2164/10/1 The chicken is more studied, because many of its chromosomes are similar to the ancient karyotype.
