Yes, I would like to begin by saying that I was a complete idiot and I downloaded a KEYGEN online and because of that I now have some kind of adware thing ( I Think). Now Here is, to the best of my ability, my problem. Everytime I start up my computer there is this white and blue question mark that blinks interchangably with a red circle with a dash through it. (See Images) http://www.southshoreneurologic.com/clinical/webicons/clipart-red-circle-slash.gif ^^ Thats The Image of the red Circle thingy Up there...yes that link I had 2 many images...... Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image! When I put my mouse over it it says: "VIRUS ALERT"...see the image below. Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image! ...then when I click on it it says this... Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image! "Critical System Error! System detected virus activities. They may cause critical system failure. Please, use antimalware software to clean and protect your system from parasite programs. Click here to get all available software." Obviously this is bs. When I click on it it brings me to this URL http://www.spywarequake.com/?aff=252 After saying that, I ask...can someone tell me, in plain english, what the heck is going on and how on earth can I fix it????? Ive attempted using google searches but I cannot understand half of what they are saying. Thanks in advance, Joe
LOL. I got this two times in the recent past (don't ask why.. it's illegal). Anyway, download "Lavasoft Ad-Aware." Update the definitions and run the scan. Delete all adware you find. Reboot your computer. Bam, done. If it suggests you run the scan after a reboot, allow it to do so.
absane doesnt matter. if night has downloaded and ran a program from a "crack" site then every bit of personal info that his computer has stored is compromised. his only hope is that he did not have pin numbers or credit card numbers stored on his machine. in addition to the ad-aware i also recommend zone alarm firewall (free version) do not EVER EVER EVER run any programs from a crack site.
As per usual, once your systems clean of any infection. Change all passwords (online Email, Bank passwords, forum passwords etc) doing this will create "damage limitation" if someone does have your information. A useful way to stop such programs giving you problems in the future is to remember to "Back up your Registry", for the most part most of these hijacks or trojans utilise editing the registry, rarely do they actually attempt to replace system files (although it's not ruled out). Keygen programs are notoriously script kiddie trojan droppers.
Everytime I get that bugger, it is from a crack site. I think I have had it about 5 times. Each time, I was able to get rid of it.
