    Really?
    So it was somehow "intended"?
What the hell does "accident" mean then?

Please do enlighten me. What should it be called?

Really? Which "other so-called accidents" are you referring to? Maybe you could point the post where I brought them up?
Or maybe admit you're reaching again and trying to deflect from the point.

Hawking also says, "The real challenge is to work out what aliens might actually be like."

We are not able to go and have a sneak preview, but has an irrepressible curiosity. I don't understand what he proposes.

    Perhaps neither accident nor intent.

I may search for supporting (aside from the starter link) papers. My own theories are, most likely, mirrored elsewhere. Where the seeds were lain is the impression of levels in civilizations.

Ah I see. You are reaching.
If it's not an accident or intent what's left?
    It's a pre-programmed fixed-destiny universe?

    Possibly. There's cranks everywhere.

Right. And levels of civilisation will tell you a great deal about why the dinosaurs got wiped out, or the "inevitability" of the existence of humans (especially on other planets).

I've previously pointed out that what you call "logic" actually isn't.

I dont know where you are getting this from, you seem to be pushing for this to go into a supernatural direction so ask someone who knows about any religious aspect because i cannot answer those questions. I am probably as religious as the person mentioned in the op.

I didnt say anything about dinosaurs. At least now i know why you keep bringing in these odd questions about dinosaurs and purpose.

    So what about it?

    And you're reaching again.
If it isn't intent and it isn't an accident what could it be?
That would be why I asked:

No I did, that's where I pointed out that we are the result of an accident.
But YOU made claims about them (which have yet to be substantiated).

Apparently not, since you seem to constantly miss the point (and constantly avoid actually answering).

So if your "logic" is faulty (and it is) your conclusions will also be faulty.

Once more: are you going to answer any of my questions or just continue evading?

Anything that can be answered, pertaining to this thread, has been answered. I think i have given away too much already.

    I see.
So now you're admitting you've been talking crap, inventing specious arguments and making assertions that you can't support.

    "Given away too much"?
Hardly, we already knew you were clueless. That's no revelation.

I find it odd that he is recommending us not trying to communicate with them. Our TV and radio signals are heading out into space as fast as any communication we now have. So if they are in range, they know already. And if they are not, at this point we can't text message them faster than the speed of light, so I am not sure who Hawkins is trying to restrain.

he is trying to restraint himself, Doreen. All he is doing is inducing phobia of world society towards the unknown.

OK, but unless I am missing something, the science in his assumptions is weak.

Not specifically but your statement that you have given answers where answers are possible implies, given that you have failed to provide certain answers (e.g. what evidence do you have for your claims), that you don't have evidence.
In other words you've been making stuff up in an effort to appear clever.
    Fail.
Oh yeah and making false claims about what I've said.
You made statements and claims that you can't back up (by your own admission).
I.e. you've been, as the vernacular would have it, talking crap.

    Hey Dywyddyr,

    thanks

His name is Hawking, for starters.

    NOT HAWKINS.

And now it has already been established that they look exactly like us and we should desist from calling them 'Aliens'.

Yep, it's probably already too late.
I'm still unconvinced that the "warning" was a serious one, i.e. it could well have been an out-of-context comment or prefaced with "On the other hand...".
But there's also (from the article linked):
In other words he may have been "led" into speculating.

On the other (other... how many have i got?) hand, given this:
It's a "reasonable" assumption - the only intelligent life we know behaves like that...

We also have the Astronomer Royal giving us this:
from the Times article linked to in the other thread.

AFAIK Hawking isn't the first (and is unlikely to be the last) person to "warn" us about the possible consequences (not withstanding the outrage about sending "dirty pictures" into space when Voyager(?) took the plaque with nude depictions of a male and female human). Maybe the comment was just for balance?
Unfortunately I'm TV-less, so I won't get to see the series... :bawl:

Um, thanks John. Must be a lot of work checking everyone's spelling. In any case, now that we have the name right

'for starters', could you respond with some substance?

Or was that for finishers also?

    Bull.
    Established by whom?
    When?
You're either making crap up again or you've listened to, and believed, some crackpot.

    Hardly.
One of us has a brain.
