They could really give a shit. They don't know right and wrong. Nor do they care. They are soldiers. You said it yourself, they follow orders like any military personell.

b) Great. The USA is a much better place. Yipity do da.
The safety of the USA is not the only concern. What about the safety of all the people (Americans and foreigners) being killed because of Bush's terrorism? Bush does not want peace. Bush could care less about finding Sadam and Osama. Bush wants war. If either of them is found, guess what? Bush would have to go through a shit load of trouble creating a new antagonist figure to justify his warmongering.
c) In fact, I sometimes wonder if the USA is really a more dangerous place because of Bush.

Seems that the whole world is a safer place. My point is that Bush hasn't taken away anything from me that I can actually see. I can go where I want when I want and with whom I want. There's no restrictions on my speech, my writing or my listening. I don't really "see" where Bush is taking away any rights from the American citizens but the news media would have you think otherwise.
