A couple months before the battle of Sigma Octanus IV, a portal is formed by some strange Forerunner device linking the Halo galaxy with the Star Wars galaxy a few months after the battle of Yavin 4. The portal opens in the Nal Hutta system (that is the name of the system to,right?) in the SW galaxy, and in the Halo galaxy above the Covenant colony world of Joyous Exultation.

Can the Empire defeat the vast Covenant empire? Or shall human worlds and others in the Star Wars galaxy be glassed like the hundreds of UNSC space?

Some quick facts about the Covenant.

    1. They control a large area of the Orion Arm of the galaxy.

    2. Weapons yields get into the TT range as shown during glassing operations in the book The Fall of Reach and First Strike.

    3. The Covenant can afford to lose a of lot ships-nearly 1000 plus a mobile, 30km station in a two week period and not even make a small dent in their forces.

    4. Covenant weapons range from 9+ light second ranges for Plasma Torpedos down to 10,000 km for all their weapons.

    5. Slipspace is slower then then Hyperspace, but the Covenant can shall cross 25,000 light years within a one month time or so as seen in Halo 2.
Slipspace drives allow the Covenant to avoid any sensors in normal space until they return to it, and pass through any real space objet such as stars, planets etc. without any effect. Also allows Covenant ships can make pin-point jumps with an error no greater then the diameter of an atom, which also gives them tac jumps. Say, Covenant ship is 10,000 in front of ISD-reappears behind ISD and turns it into swiss cheese.

Come people! I want to get the ball rolling. Its 5:01PM here and I want to get this debate going to night.

Edit: and here's the quote from The Fall of Reach on Covenant planet glassing.

quote. Three dozen Covenant ships-big ones, destroyers and cruisers-winked into view in the system. They were sleek, looking more like sharks than starcraft. Their lateral lines brightened with plasma-then discharged and rained down upon Jericho VII.
The Chief watched for an hour and didn't move a muscle.
The planet's lakes, rivers, and oceans vaporized. By tomorrow, the atmosphere would boil away, too. Fields and forest were glassy smooth and glowing red-hot in patches.
Where there had been paradise, only hell reamained. Unquote.

So shot for shot a Plasma Torpedo has more power then one TL bolt since Covie Rate of Fire is not as high.

Edit again. And before any warsies bring up how a Halo ring was taken out by fusion reactors (which the Covenant use, but can shall glass worlds), go to the SD.Net nuke caluclator... because the PoA reactors blew up in the area of 60-200 Teratons. Pretty good for fusion, would't you say?

Aliens from crysis could easily beat the living crap outta anything that the covenant or the humans can bring to the table.

Look at this bad boy, a standard assault vehicle, fitted with a moac (gattling gun that fires ice shards about 3 feet long near supersonic speeds, moar, freezes enemies in place and kills them, and a singularity cannon (fires a localized black hole)

What is so funny? Halo has the games and the books The Fall of Reach (TFoR is highly inconsistent so will be used rarely), The Flood, First Strike. Contact Harvest, Ghost of Onyx and The Cole Protocol.
"All cruisers fire at will! Burn their mongrel imperial hides with are TT range Torpedos that have a speed of 150,000 kilometers per-second and a 9+ light second range!"

So could we just get this debate going already, I am getting bored of waiting.

Thank god. You're going to get litterally no debate. I have rarely heard of someone knowing about all of these books and such. Alas starwars is so high classed that comparing it to halo is kind of new to me.

It is only high classed if you are talking about the UNSC...who have a nuke called the NOVA that is easily in the EXATON range.
But I am looking more at the Covenant who have ships that could easily go toe-to-toe with an ISD an come out on top.

You see I have yet more quotes besides that one form page 8 of TFoR to bring out even higher firepower for Covie ships.

And even without the books we have the glassing of half of Africa in a few to a a few hours. And Harvest was mostly glassed in Halo Wars, and then UNSC even blew up a star using a Slipspace drive from what I have heard since I haven't played it yet.

Also, look up "Halo vs Star Wars" and you will find that there are dozens of debates raging or already done.. mostly ending favor of SW since nearly no one reads the damn books. Lets see: Empire vs Covenant the Empire will take decades to map out the Orion Arm and until then the massive Covenant fleet which easily ranges at the low end in the mid hundreds of thousands to high end low millions can just take their time blowing up Imperial battle groups. I take a Plasma Torpedo over a TL any day just for the fact that shot for shot a PT is far more powerful since rate of fire is nowhere near as high.
Now lets get this debate going.

Halo FTW. Imagaine what would happen with the Human Covenant Alliance. Human Ingenuity, and Covenant + Forerunner technology would be awesome. AI controlled Covenant ships, with Human escorts and integrated crews would be freaking awesome.

At some point, I'd just not even get into a debate. The weapons technology is just getting way out of hand. I mean, its like anything anyone could ever imagine is being written as a possibility and just drawn up as functioning. At this point it becomes 'over-nerd' material... I'd watch a movie but I wouldn't 'learn' the data or play a game, and I certainly wouldn't be seen debating whether or not SW could bring anything worth discussing. SW shall remain as the lesser power, even against Trek.

There's an entire forum dedicated to this subject.

I'd link it but it's bull**** that I need to be at post count 20+ to be able to do so.

And Alpine, if there were ever a trekkie who couldn't accept canon weaknesses in Star Trek, it'd be you.

If you're referring to the debate that Trek shields and weapons are inferior and that hyperspace is faster, I've already agreed to accept that so I don't know where you got that idea.

I've never once said Trek's shields would survive a hard strike from an ISD, or that phasers and photons are a match for ISD shields. I also never said Warp speed could ever hope to keep pace with a hyperspace jump. I've never said The Force would be ineffective in any way, except since Trek wouldn't mention that the Force wouldn't work on a specific species, that would only be a potential possibility.

So if I never suggest SW strengths would be ineffective, how do you presume that isn't the same as admitting Trek having a weakness to prevent their effectiveness?

I'd look just to satisfy my curiosity about human behavior and to see if anyone could ever settle on a strict rule for good SW vs ST debate. As for the games with enormous detail - I know it must be fascinating to contemplate going to war with another game, but debating would never appeal to me with me being clueless as to just how strategic their abilities are, and the attack scale being so ridiculous. We know a planetary attack is a reasonably believable ability but to me that just takes the fun out of everything. Who ever is fastest and can destroy the most planets wins. BORING. Wait, that sounds too familiar... why is that?

It is indeed unfortunate that legitmate members suffer through the post count limitations, however it's also a necessity to deal with the influx of spammers and exploiters that would happy spam this place up if given the opportunity. I guess you can say it serves as a deterient, albiet doesn't irradicate the problem.

As for Aliens... well I'd prefer to be granted a trusty crowbar and be a "Freeman" of the realm. What better way of dispatching of the Combine?

Nuclear bombardment from orbit. Assuming you don't care about "collateral damage" that is.

I was actually talking about my post in Halo vs. Star Trek, where I cited nothing but Star Trek episodes, and you called me biased for it.

Maybe because that's a realistic end to a hypothetical situation?

May the Forerunner be with us...

Will I've been reading through my SW books and thought I'd level the playing field by shooting down ICS... I just hope this doesn't start a flame war.

*dons level 117 Forerunner combat armor*

From SW: Revenge of the Sith page 1.

    SW: Death Star, page 233.

A couple things from the movies now: in TESB an ISD bridge tower is destroyed by a small asteroid that may have even caused the rest of the ship to be destroyed.

In RoTJ during Ewok Attack we see Stormtrooper armor cracked after Ewoks swing into them and they roll down a hill: crack on the helmet and on the shoulder.

I have a few more things from another books like a BDZ from The Hutt Gambit that I will post tomorrow.

Will just let SW have its ICS yields, the Covenant are more then powerful enough to win. Here are posts from the Halo vs Star Trek thread by me.
