Bells, the very reason that Haiti is a shithole is exactly because they have 10 million or so people. They have almost no farmland. They can grow almost no food. They must rely on charity for almost everything. And yet, ...through it all, they continue to have more babies. Fuck 'em if they're stupid enough to continue to have babies while they're starving to death. Stupid people should be allowed to fuck themselves into extinction. Sympathy? Can the Haitians eat sympathy, Bells? What the fuck good is sympathy going to do those people? They fucked themselves into their present situation, so let 'em fuck their way out of it. To bad they didn't have strong building codes or if they did they never enforced them whenever they constructed anything. They live on an ACTIVE FAULT LINE! That should tell them they need to build stuff extra strong but alas they seem to just forget about such things.

Look in all seriousness the earthquake is very unfortunate and if I felt sympathy would do them any good I would express it. However...like baron said sympathy will do them no good. It wont rebuild their towns, resurrect their dead and prevent any further natural disasters in the area. I HOPE that they learn all the valuable lessons this event can teach them. I hope I eat my words and look like a fool as they become a self-relying country of reason and understanding and possibly contributing back to the world in which they take. I'm sure these people are good people at heart but there needs to be some responcibility on THEIR part for THEIR situation.
I don't have time to give you a history and economics lesson, but you do realise that we should be accepting of our responsibility for their situation.
Haiti is dirt poor. They most likely can't afford to build nice, strong buildings the way we do in the US.
Well I don't have time for one atm but I'm sure it has something to do with the US keeping them in poverty through any various means of bullying??.. Regardless Im assuming the US is forever indebted and responsible to all poor nations under crisis?! Or just Haiti? Whatever the reason is for the responsibility we have to them, I hope they take their geographical location more seriously in the future, as well as the other issues that made this natural event so horrific.

But now that you've brought up the blame for dying and deaths, why aren't you blaming the Haitians for bringing so many kids into that world of poverty .....just so they can starve to death or be killed by some natural disaster like this? If the Haitians had only 1 child per family instead of 8 or whatever, this massive earthquake would still happen and kill thousands. In any case, whatever economic and societal problems they are facing, to be having THIS discussion right now instead of pitying them, is just inhumane.
a humane discussion is less helpfull than a real cold hard truthful discussion. Your and many others pity is enabling them to remove themselves from responsibility and ignore the problems. The inhumane realities of their situation that were discussing is far more helpful than saying "poor Haitians not your fault nothing you could do...etc etc" With so much pity flying around one might actually begin to believe there was NOTHING they could have done about their current situation.
It is not up to the people to make the rules but the government and to have the government enforce those rules as well.
We have our own problems. We have a socialist incompetent/unqualified POTUS who has allowed two terror attacks and missed a third by thismuch. We are broke/bankrupt and he is running up trillions in debt. If Haitians stopped reproducing like rats maybe Americans would have more empathy. We already send them a fortune which never gets to the poor because of their corrupt government. News reports are estimating up to 500k could be dead. This is very sad. If it is true, hopefully the remaining residents will not re-overpopulate the hellhole again. My main concern is the 1000 US personnel assigned to the US compound.
