I have to add that Google is ingenious in the way it works out what it is you actually want from even the most garbled, non-specific input. Hurrah for Google, I say.

Spurious, instead of (Margaret Thatcher naked), you search for ("Margaret Thatcher naked"), obviously without the brackets. This way you get sites with the specific phrase only, instead of all sites with the 3 words appearing anywhere.

Perhaps there's some anthropology site where Margaret Bates discusses how Iron Age Europeans used to roof their houses, and gets rid of the myth that every Ancient Greek used to walk around butt crack naked. If you include the search phrase in quotation marks then you can eliminate that particular irrelevant result (since it's obviously not what you were looking for).

A brilliant explanation. That I couldn't be bothered giving him.
Google's incredible PageRank system ensured that you got the best, most relevant of those 2m results. Otherwise you could have been digging forever. But: where the page ranking isn't returning quite what you're looking for - that's when quotes come in handy.

I don't understand how those people manage to go on top all the time. They don't even have a proper lab animal cartoon FFS!

anyway. I have bought now www.lab-animals.com.

But my host is so slow. They still haven't managed to direct it to the proper location.

Hoping that this will propel me to the top.

any website with "-" symbol in it does not do good in ratings...people tend to forget to add it when they type in the website's name

Hyphenations in domains can be a problem if they are used in searches, as some search engines use both + and - to identify if a word or phrase should be included or excluded.

However for the most part people won't be searching for the domain name because if they know it, they'll just type it into the URL box.

I do notice that google image search sucks a bit. That's probably because it is difficult to assess what is on a picture based on its description or the keywords surrounding it.
