    My keen interest is in non-consumerism, and anti-advertising. I don't spend money, and I don't buy anything. So how do you suppose they can target me?

    i figured why i let it remain as a disabled entry
    any update of a google product will zap it right back in
    that goes for the services item as well..

    Not quite sure what you mean, but if you are saying that google's retaining of non-anonymised information is a danger, I would agree.

    If Google is getting good commercial information, no problem, but if it helps Governments in repressing their people, then that is bad.

    The UK is increasingly Orwellian.
    If Governments could get hold of this kind of information, they would abuse it.

    How come you have a Defraggler on your computer?
    Aren't you getting a little over-obsessive about Fraggle?

    My software does the same thing, though it's not doing what you may think. In the first frame where it says "Installing new version", it's probably just downloading updater information into a staging area. That can probably be found in C:\Users\YOUR_NAME\USERDATA\ROAMING (or something like that) . A switch is set in its settings database which makes it launch the downloaded updater after init instead of launch the program, it might LOOK seamless, but it's not. Your system can't actually update until you give it permission.

    sorry
    that is the default behavior when clicking "about chrome"

    *looks for update
    *installs if available
    *asks for a restart

    it is likely there is a switch (win version) somewhere......?

    Again, I don't have a Windows machine to check this on presently. I assume you've done the following:

    Disable the Service:
    Start --> Run --> Services.msc

    Disable the Autorun:
    Start --> Run --> MSCONFIG

    Additionally you might want to look in the registries at:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion \Window
    (see here --> http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd744762(v=vs.85).aspx)

    It might be registering a DLL to be loaded at user run which would force it to be re-loaded if corrupted.

    You might also want to check in their enterprise guide -- http://support.google.com/installer/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=146164#Registry_Settings

    --
    It also appears to store its GUID's in

    HKLM/Software/{*}/Google/Update/Clients/
    HKCU/Software/Google/Update/Clients/

    If all of the GUID's are removed it should be uninstallable through cmd.

    Start --> Run --> CMD
    c:\program file *\Google\Update\googleupdater.exe -uninstall

    jeez
    you are annoying....

    it is why there is no point in uninstalling the updater
    any subsequent update of a google product will install updater right back again with fresh entries in every nook and goddamn cranny

    There's no need to be snarky when I'm offering assistance -- the first two were obviously assumed done. It's 3 and 4 which you might not have expected necessary.

    Yes, this is why you first need to unregister the appinit dll's and then remove the product GUID's. If it can't find GUID's it won't fully remove. If the boot-time dynamic libraries are also still intact it will detect corruption...

    I'm sorry I've disturbed the expert with my incompetency, things were clearly going better for you before I stepped in to help.

    well
    pardon

    the gpedit template should come in handy
    i'll import it and give it a shot
    i suppose i will have to put everything back to its default status to see if the template works satisfactorily

    Good luck! Let me know how it goes, we will beat Google! There's no doubt they're very sly in their mix of great software, identity tracking, and 'malware-ish' programs.

    So I finally figured out how they do this. They wrote their on DLL loader frontends and install their applications into AppData. This allows them to update them without needing administrator permissions, very clever.

    Atleast under Linux, Chromium Browser requires root powers to run that sandbox. I'm sure, because of the nature of the way such sandbox is set that it requires admin priviledges under Windows and Mac. This is not the responsibility of the browser, to run things as root. Imagine the exploit: Root or Admin power over your entire computer and it's connected to a browser, which means the rest of the world. Put that with Googles track record of spying and tampering into private information through their services. Your entire operating system is put at risk to be fundamentally altered. I will never touch Google Chromium Browser. You look at their explanation of the sandbox of their project page, and it's abject and explains nothing to the laymen.
