I think the part you are missing here is that, to Jan, faith without certain knowledge is still knowledge to her.

No. God is unknowable to those who do not want to know. You only think it is like that for everyone because you cannot comprehend what God is. You see God from an atheist perspective, which is a person without God.

I get it, there is no God, as far as your senses can detect, yet there is air.
So I understand why you see it like that.

I know God is unknowable to you.

I think it is Seattle that displays strong faith, and certain knowledge in his assertion that everyone thinks like him.

I wonder if you will bring that up?

What "faith" has he shown? He hasn't claimed that everyone thinks like him.

He has faith in his belief that God is unknowable, and he claims, for certain, that God is unknowable to everyone because He is unknowable to him.

No. This has nothing to do with what I or anyone can or can not comprehend. There is no "atheist" perspective and a "person without God" is just some phrase that you have made up.

When your senses can't detect something, it's not knowable. It may be there but you can't know it.

    No, you don't know that.

Jan has to pretend that theists have special knowledge because otherwise Jan would have to contend with the irrationality of theism.

    No, he doesn't.

Is this where you go down one of those "atheism is a religion because they believe in no religion" rabbit holes?

Does he know that God is unknowable to everybody?

    Same same

Never argue with an idiot. They will only bring you down to their level and beat you with experience.

Or never argue with a pig. You'll get muddy and they'll enjoy it.

Thought it was 'Don't lay in the gutter....in case the pig gets up and walks away'

Various versions around. Even a song?

Pissst. Better get back on topic.

I want to know. I yearn to know. I would give my life savings to know. I would go to Lourdes to know.

Note to self:- set up surf funding website for travel costs and expenses. Would $500,000 be enough? Tele evangelist seem to get much more.

I get it, there is no God, as far as your senses can detect, yet there is air.

Air is detected as wind and the lungs do a pretty good job of sucking out oxygen from air detected.

Our senses are fairly limited but we have made great strides in making technical detectors expanding our senses.

Better to build a technical detector than rely on taking canaries down the mine.

I live in hope a church would be able to make/build/find a god detector

The latest big church model, pope, still one of many work in progress concept.

I would even settle for a ID detector.

But no ID believer will give us anything but the title.

I sense a money making scheme here.
    1. Make a device to attach to a believer. Note device must be
    • Easy to attach
    • Have a detection indicator (meter, buzzer, flashing lights etc and have a random detection feature)
    2. Pick name that gives both the idea of science and (can't put religion . bummer)

SciIDology might fit. Do market research.

Anybody out there know of anything like my proposal?

That's your problem. You think God is necessarily out there.

    If only that was true.

It's not detectable by your senses, so obviously it's unknowable to them. But you don't use your senses to detect everything.
God can be known through the mind and intelligence.

I'm going off what you said: God is unknowable to everyone
