This is the kind of thing that really makes global warming advocates look bad. Ted Turner was recently interviewed and predicted an 8 degree rise in temperature within ten years, then he changed his mind and said thirty or forty years. He went on to predict that this would cause all the crops to fail and most humans would die with those remaining becoming cannibals.

Yeah, like Ted Turner is a reliable source of science information. We will become cannibals, but we will be cannibalizing the remains of our civilization.

Who said he was? But he is a very visible spokesperson. This will be fodder for talkshows and anti-global warming types (like me) to lampoon the entire global warming movement. Ted Turner is out there spreading complete bullshit like this and the only people correcting him are us "global warming deniers"Global warming advocates would have a lot more credibility if they would make a point of correcting this kind of hyperbole. .

You don't know that it's not true. That's his amateur prediction. He specifically corrected himself "not ten", he said, 30 or 40 years. That could happen.

This is the same kind of crap Paul Erhlich predicted would happen in the 1980's due to overpopulation. It's complete crap not supported by any scientific model. Note he backed off from the 10 year projection because he'll probably still be alive then and would look like an ass when it didn't happen.

The warnings about overpopulation are also relevent. There are many factors involved which make it hard to predict the exact timelines, but the principles are sound.

And so we are not surprised to find it in the news, and featured prominently in the righty ranting: there is a large constituency who finds celebrity foolishness much more convenient as a matter for discussion than the actual science and the more sober warnings of the genuinely informed.
You guys are the only people paying attention to him. And you are using him to clog up the channels of information.

If Paul Ehrlich had predicted political collapse and slaughter (including cannibalism, even) in the areas of highest population growth that he drew attention to, rather than global breakdown of food and commodity supply, he would have looked prescient.

His biggest mistake was too naively believing standard capitalist economic theory, and consequently underestimating things like war and public science.

Some enviro-wackos seem to like to say crazy things, and parrot trendy junk-science of the day, to hear themselves talk.

As if they are "God's gift to the earth" or something, and nobody else much matters.

And the the US media, ever faithful to their corporate ownership, makes sure that the wacko stuff is suitably exaggerated and broadcast, in place of the more sober and less easily dismissed research and observations.

Turner is a prophet, you'll see.

Sure he is, meanwhile temperatures haven't risen since 1998. Has CO2 output suddenly dropped? Surely it must have! It is the engine that drives global temperature, isn't it?

But they have risen since 1997 and 1999.

    And fallen since 2005.

It turns out that by some amazing miracle the ordinary fluctuations of global temperature are still happening - La Nina still exists, the occasional volcano still belches aerosols, sunspots and ocean current cycles and meltwater feedbacks and both revolutionary and orbital precessions still occur, and the CO2 boost effects (if any) combine with them rather than causing them to suddenly disappear.

    Imagine that.

What most people who have a serious interest do, in situations like this, is take a moving average and draw a trend line. Very sophisticated and all that - fancy playing around with numbers, no doubt the average American is right to be suspicious about getting fooled by liberals, but there it is - complexity.

If global warming would cause cannibalism, would an ice age as well? Is there evidence that this happened during ice ages?

what about prion/cjd type diseases wouldn't that go hand in hand if cannibals eat cannibals

  23. It is possible for you to access and activate the parts of the brain and mind that allow you to "time-travel"... Quite simple.. locate the dominant DNA particle in your Being... Establish a projected tube for the molecule to travel in... Power it up... Exit the tube near the year 150,000, and slowly roll back along the years, till you notice movement on the planet, near the year 145,730.. pause there and spectate... You will be watching the last human cracking the marrow out of the bones of the second last...

Someone is copying some of my past seven years work of my trying to wake humanity into a little reality...

After the ice-caps have melted, the planet's weather will stall, and most of the earth will mutate into dessert...
Every time I send a post to "bootstrap", a powerful hateful remote viewer attacks me the next day... I'm relieved that he's finally starting to catch-on to a little reality...

If America's war push with Arabia goes nuclear in the sand, the millions of tons of toxic dust will irradiate all the planet's bug's sleeping eggs, as the dust falls on everything in rains in the next couple years, extincting the planet's fragile pollinators...
Only those who can afford greenhouse produce will survive...
    We've killed our planet...
