I didn't much care for "Grease." I graduated from high school in 1960 and I just didn't think it captured the spirit of the era very authentically. "West Side Story" (which I forgot to add to my list) did a better job but it was written more contemporarily. And of course the music was much better. I'm not sure I ever saw "Paint Your Wagon," on stage or screen. I know it was infamous for Clint Eastwood's singing. I also forgot to mention "The Muppet Movie," a felony in our family. We're waiting very impatiently for the long-promised "Fraggle Rock" movie.
"7 Days", a French movie about a husband and doctor who's young daughter was raped and killed. He captures the suspect (there was DNA evidence), and tortures him for 7 days while the police try to find them. This movie almost made me pass out. "Troll", a Norwegian movie in the style of a fake documentary about Norway's troll problem. Really entertaining.
Don't know if you have seen Law Abiding Citizen as yet but it also has a very gruesome scene where the husband mutilates the man who killed his wife and child.
my netflix queue recently ran dry so i added your recommendations. troll sounds fun, but i think i'll skip 7 days.
kokuhaku (告白) - Confessions Japanese film about a teacher, single mother, whose daughter is one day found drowned in the school's swimming pool. The teacher is convinced that it was students from her class. The film is kind of suspenseful, and crazy at the same time. I really enjoyed the watch.
I will be very interested to see what you think of it. It stars Jesus as the town drunk, caught by fat Roman soldiers and forced to make paper mache copies of himself.... and it just gets stranger from there.
Watched Blue Valentine on the weekend. I was surprised at how much I enjoyed it. Also rewatched Leaving Las Vegas. Damn, what an amazing flick..
the novelty wore off after about 15 minutes, and then i waited for it to end. i think my husband liked it a little bit more than i did. i thought it was cute how he would try to find some obscure meaning in it. but i didn't need a gratuitous artsy b flick to tell me that humanity is completely retarded. it's pretty much how i see it everyday, only my perception isn't void of emotion, so it's a lot darker and even more twisted.
i liked "city of ember" much better. has anyone mentioned "boxing helena"? that's a must see mind fuck. david lynch...the trailer... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x97VZ0tH0i0
City of Ember is awesome. It's made after a series of books, the next ones are: The People of Sparks The Prophet of Yonwood The Diamond of Darkhold
