When I was looking through goofyfish's thread of what's on the cd I was amazed at how much music is out there that I never heard about. Especially some of the stuff that goofyfish was listing. He must have stacks of albums from the floor to the ceiling.

What I was thinking here was for eveyone to list their seven favorite albums, kind of as a buyers guide for anyone who wished to enlarge their collections. I could easily come up with thirty favorite albums or even some larger number but I figure most else of what I would list is going to be on someone else's list anyway. The idea here is more to see which albums come up time and again.

My personal favorites are all from the time when I was a partying teenager in the seventies, a time when I was young and stupid and still learning the fine art of drinking and puking into the toilet at school dances without splattering all over my pants. I find that certain music has a way of connecting with you in some metaphysical way and what could be first thought of as just clashing noise could become a cherished treasure. When I first heard Grand Funk Railroad's "Survival" playing on my brother's turntable I walked into the room just when there was a lot of primal screaming coming from some song and I thought my brother must be nuts to listen to such stuff, but later, after he kept playing it and after I listened to it a few more time, it came to be a favorite.

Now I'll list my seven, but they're not necessarily in an absolute order because I probably like them all equally well.

    Billion Dollar Babies--Alice Cooper
    Machine Head--Deep Purple
    Demons and Wizards--Uriah Heep
Dark Side of the Moon--Pink Floyd
Deju-vu--Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young, Dallas Tayler and Greg Reeves
    Survival--Grand Funk Railroad
    Love it to Death--Alice Cooper

Just to split up the list format...

I don't really have that many albums (probably less than 7 in total)

cos I tend to just copy stuff of the radio (whereas often with albums there's are several songs I odn't like, or I get fed up with hearing the same group for ages in a row, but I'm quite fond of My Linkin Park one, thought before you start to stereotype me, I like the first and thrid Britney Spears ones too...

Hey, are you planning to get Reanimation? I heard FRGT10, but it's not that great

And have you seen their DVD? I don't know what's on it, so I'm trying to find out whether it's a good deal or not.

They have Static Prevails, Clarity, and Jimmy Eat World, but I went to a website and I found they had a ton of singles and songs that were on other CD's in collaboration with other bands. But you must get Jimmy Eat World, since it's like their "debut" album.

Plus, you can just download a bunch of their other songs off the Internet. Some of my faves are Goodbye Sky Harbor, Believe In What You Want, and Clarity.

Not seen LP remix album, but heard of it. Only seen POA remix, that's cool, it's on MTV a lot.

Thing is, I can't really afford to buy both LP and JEW.

which one do you recommend? Maybe I shoudl wait a while before buying LP, so that it's on discount?

The way I got to hear of JEW was when a friend gave me an mp3 with them on, so they're just random JEW songs, but I love all of them ("Sweetness", "The Middle", "Blood, Sweat, Sugar", "Clarity", "A Praise Chorus", "A Sunday", "Call It In The Air", "If you Don't Don't", "Lucky Denver Mint" "Rockstar", "Seventeen" and "Thinking, that's all".) Do you know which album has most of those songs on? and I usually think a debut album the worst, cos the group/person is just finding their style...?

I shall consider it next time I'm in a music store.

I really don't know which one I should recommend, since I love them both..

Linkin Park is awesome, but JEW has more history. I guess that waiting for a while is a good idea, or you could just download the entire album off the Net (thanks to those wonderful MP3 rippers

), and transfer it to a portable device or burn it to a CD.

Well, four of the songs (Sweetness, The Middle, A Praise Chorus, and If You Don't, Don't) are on the Bleed American CD, but Clarity, A Sunday, and Lucky Denver Mint are on Clarity. Thinking, That's All, Seventeen, Rockstar, Call It In The Air are on Static Prevails. And I've never heard of Blood, Sweat, Sugar, though it sounds like RHCP's album Bloodsugarsexmagik.

So basically, you have a fair amount from each album...

Yeah, I might have been a bit rash in saying Jimmy Eat World is their debut album, because they have 2 more before that, but it's the album from which we hear their songs on the radio (i.e. Bleed American, The Middle, Sweetness).

Disclaimer: This is more than 7 (yes, really). It isn't really all encompassing or written in stone. Its dependent on the current mood and on what the ol' memory wants to spit up. And um, its not counting stuff I'm sure I'd put on there that I haven't really heard like The Clash, The Beatles, The Cure, and um, blah blah blah...

    ~Dream Suite - Suzanne Ciani!~

Wow! Absolutely beautiful music, can't go wrong with orchestral music and piano solos!

So full of hope and optimism...not a human voice, purely instrumental. I wonder what makes it so appealing? It just enters your ear so easily, blends into your thoughts, and it never intrudes, just enhances.
