The 21st century promises an incredible bounty of advancement and progress. Physical and biological sciences will shape our global society in ways yet unimagined. With our engineering industries gradually moving production down in scale toward the size of molecules and genes, many possible opportunities will open before us. Objects and properties which we have taken for granted since the evolution of our species, are likely to become obsolete within the next few decades.

Since at least the beginning of civilization, human societies have been hampered by various continuing difficulties. Wars have been among the most prominent troubles, but there is hope for a final world peace as we continue to move toward governance on ever larger scales. The United Nations, the growing European Union and the gradual coming unification of the three North American countries indicate that greater visionary efforts toward progress are well underway. With each new created rule equally applicable to everyone on an ever growing scale to include billions, an age of ever accelerating commercial and labor activity begins, with increased security and growing material gain for all.

However, wars have not been the only problem that the human race has confronted. The hushed whimpers of individual victims of undeserved bias have almost never had their say during the course of history. To this day, public information on ethnic and gender discrimination is often drowned out by daily news updates of democracy's ongoing military triumphs against independent terrorist rogue states. The importance of bringing the separatist rogue states under the peaceful democratic umbrella of global rule cannot be understated. But, beneath our seemingly untroubled democratic umbrella, the tears of silent bias victims continue to rain down on us all.

Some religious fundamentalists would have us dismiss genetic engineering as evil, calling this industry "the devil's work". What if genetic engineering can save us all from the unbearable, horrifying psychological anguish of ethnic and gender bias, felt by so many, but openly expressed between so few. The human genome has been mapped for some years now. The individual genes programmed with all the unique characteristics of our species will continue to be decoded. Promise and hope against the terrorism of biased discrimination may very well lay just around the bend for us all.

Sometime during this century, genetic science may render ethnicity (race) and gender (sex) optional for the newly born children of the world. Parents could be faced with the hopeful prenatal option of selecting a specific designer ethnicity and gender of their own choosing, or preferably none at all.

Progressive thinkers from all around the globe have concluded for everyone that the blending of races guarantees the end of all conflict. We have before us an opportunity to permanently end all wars and bias virtually overnight. With cloning technology advancing in success by producing copies of higher species beyond sheep and even cattle, a selected reproductive gender itself will be unnecessary. Progressive humanitarian thinkers from around our global village must come together beneath this rainbow of hope and begin to look forward to the era of sexless, raceless species prosperity for the good of us all. The end of STDs, poverty, war, discrimination or differences is upon us at last.
