I am in the process of selling all of my mom's furs because my wife doesn't like fur to take them for herself, but I have run into a problem selling one of them. Her ocelot fur is an endangered species. I have taken it to two different furriers and they said that unless I have a receipt for when it was purchased, proving it was before the species became endangered, I could not sell it to them. The receipt is long gone. I asked the furriers if I could make a private sale and they were unable to answer that. Does anyone here know the answer?

If you sell it yourself you shouldn't have a problem. Just advertise it

somewhere like Ebay or your local newspaper. Check with the authorities

where you live first just to make sure though.

Keep the ocelot fur for your own personal use. The wife needn't fool with it if she doesn't want to.

I don't think so with that. I already have a mink jacket for myself and my dog.

Here is my dog's mink fur jacket. I don't have a pic of mine, but it is in my truck. I'll take a pic of it in a few and post it too.

Why does a dog need a fur coat? Don't they already have one? My husband bought a fur coat (mink) from his uncle years ago. He never wore it. He just bought it because it was part of the 82 olympics costume or some damn thing and his stupid uncle needed the money. Anyway we took it to a furrier and asked them to sell it for us. First they charged us $135. to clean it then $55. a year to store it. After 3 years of it not selling we said f*ck it and told them to keep the damn thing. They were only going to give us 65% of what they sold it for anyway.

I'm sure it looked much better on the mink.

Why don't you take your fur coats and give them to a homeless charity?

The age of the coat can be professionally determined, probably. That would give you a document you can use to sell the thing legally.

A homeless person would destroy them. They wouldn't have any clue on taking care of them. They are much too valuable for that. Plus, the one is less than 2 years old.

Hey Mickmeister, I need some dog fur for my cat to wear this winter. Could you skin that dog of yours for me ?

Dog fur is not too warm. I would suggest mink or beaver. They have much thicker coats.

It would take a few of him. I calculated that his pelt wouldn't even make a glove.
