I think the ideal thing would be to not to have emergency supplies constantly on stand by, that is ridiculous. But instead have a plan ready, a well drawn up, squeaky clean, well oiled, feasable plan for such a situation. A plan that would get the aid where it needs to go as quickly as physically possible.

Let me ask you this Baron: Was that aid delivered as fast as possible? What difference does it make as to who should be getting it there? JUST LET IT GET THERE! WHOEVER CAN DO IT, JUST DO IT! Being as the federal government has far more resources than any local government, you mean to tell me its just the local government's problem? Even with something on this scale? This is a national problem my friend. The government has the ultimate responsibility to respond quickly and efficiently.

Well I'm 45 miles away from Northridge, on the coast, and we didn't receieve any damage over here except for maybe a vase or something falling over, heh. 10 miles closer to Northridge, a few pools had water slosh out of it. A lil closer, a couple pools cracked. A lil closer, a couple older homes had their structures cracked. Only in the epicenter is anything gonna happen, and even then, it won't even come close to being near the damage received by a hurricane, unless somehow the "big one" winds up breaking off Southern California into it's own island like shown in movies. A tsunami is the only thing I'd ever have to worry about, being on the coast and all. I wish I were 10 miles further north though where there's all kinds of hills and cliffs to help protect against that.

Heh, I always think about that when under an overpass, lol.

Someone disgruntled who doesn't get as much spotlight? Hmm, how about Paul Wolfowitz?

I would just ask my friends and family to put aside their entertainment budget to give to a faith-based disaster relief program, ie., candles and pictures of the virgin mary, because disaster management isn't what the gub'ment is supposed to do, that would be socialism.

I already thought that Bush was snooping this forum under an acronym!

Bush,…ehh Baron: I knew this was your point,…what in case of a big evil striking somewhere else? But can’t you see you’re comparing apples with oranges!

You can’t possibly think the response to an earthquake can be remotely the same as a hurricane with a sea pouring in the city through levees that broke? Do you? Man,…eeeh or boy, how old are you? They should make this forum illegal for minors to participate, read okay, so far, but this,…nah!

NO, I think ALL of us KNOW that it takes A LOT OF PHONECALLS!!!
Man! Why do you think there are ‘emergency operation centers’ being deployed? To do exactly that you MORON!

    you’re right, I shouldn’t…

Exactly what I was saying all along,

And why in the hell are you starting a new thread if this thing is about Katrina all the way?!? HUH?!

    FIVE DAYS! BARON! FIVE DAYS!
Now, you’re gonna try this or what?! Go on! Try it you fuckin coward! I bet you a won’t even last three days!

Try this or leave this forums you heartless, compassionless son of a bitch! They should hang you instead of those looters.
    Especially for this:
this was handled extensively and elaborately in the ‘Katrina’ thread! How DARE you not learn! Stupid asshole! I’ve had it with you! And I’m not alone in my opinion!
Don’t cross-post all over this forum :GRRR:

Now then, enlighten us: How in the hell would you prepare for a Class 4-5 hurricane in your city/state? State me what kind of emergency responses YOU would take as a governor!

Tell the people they should stack up some supplies? Where? In their attic? If they even have a house that is! Every poor motherfucker that is looting for a tv set, they should have an hurricane5 resistant tank at their house with hurricane5 resistant emergency power generators, right? Right! Good idear! Jeez, what planet are you from?

And that, you big bastard, is thanks to the extreme radicalisation and ridiculisation your conservative buddies are implementing in the justice departement! Sue sue sue! For the dumbest lawsuits they get rewarded!

    and not only from Australia!

Americans are definitely being encouraged to be selfish in that way.

What?! You yell at us that the people should set up their own emergency response-kit and build their own bunker filled with supplies, and yet you ask this?

    Man you are contradicting yourself!

Have you ever come out of your cave Baron? Then did you EVER experience a storm?

Your lack of empathy is disturbing to say the least.

Fuku, you've cross-reference so many different posts and considered them all mine. Why? And why are you so upset? Calm down, this is an Internet forum, yelling and anger do little or no good. Calm down.

If you wish to respond to one of my posts, please learn how, then I'll respond.

hurricane charly - hits florida August 13, 2004

claimed federal response by aug 16th 04

    • *About one hundred trucks of water and 280 trucks of ice are present or will arrive in the Jacksonville staging area today. 900,000 Meals-Ready-to-Eat are on site in Jacksonville, ready to be distributed.

*Over 7,000 cases of food (e.g., vegetables, fruits, cheese, ham, and turkey) are scheduled to arrive in Winter Haven today. Disaster Medical Assistance Teams (DMAT) are on the ground and setting up comfort stations. FEMA community relations personnel will coordinate with DMATs to assist victims. - Urban Search and Rescue Teams are completing reconnaissance missions in coordination with state officials.

*FEMA is coordinating with the Department of Energy and the state to ensure that necessary fuel supplies can be distributed throughout the state, with a special focus on hospitals and other emergency facilities that are running on generators.

*The Army Corps of Engineers will soon begin its efforts to provide tarps to tens of thousands of owners of homes and buildings that have seen damage to their roofs.

*The National Guard has called up 4,100 troops in Florida, as well as thousands in other nearby states to assist in the distribution of supplies and in preparation for any flooding.

*The Departments of Health and Human Services, Veterans Affairs, and Defense together have organized 300 medical personnel to be on standby. Medical personnel will begin deployment to Florida tomorrow.

*FEMA is coordinating public information messages with Georgia, Tennessee, Alabama, and North Carolina so that evacuees from Florida can be informed when it is safe to return. - In addition to federal personnel already in place to respond to Hurricane Charley, 1,000 additional community relations personnel are being deployed to Atlanta for training and further assignment in Florida.

about 2 weeks later, bush again claims he has succeeded in....

    • *Registering approximately 136,000 assistance applicants

*Approving over 13,500 applications for more than $59 million in housing assistance

*Establishing 12 disaster recovery centers, which have assisted nearly 19,000 disaster victims

*Deploying medical teams that have seen nearly 3,000 patients

*Disbursing 1.2 million liters of water, 8.1 million pounds of ice, and 2 million meals and snacks

*Delivering over 20,000 rolls of plastic sheeting and nearly 170 generators

*Treating more than 2,900 individuals through FEMA Disaster Medical Assistance Teams, supporting damaged hospitals

could be spin. worth noting is elections were looming

    bush's response to katrina....send cash

To which I would add, Baron, it is "Less and less freedom", or "Fewer and fewer freedoms", but never "less and less freedoms". Your grammar is as refined as your understanding of political history and as deep as your human compassion.

Ahh, but your own compassion is showing, isn't it? Or is making fun of the intelligence of old farts part of your idea of compassion? ...LOL!

Since I am also an old fart I feel perfectly entitled, and indeed beautifully engineered, to carry out this distasteful but necessary task.

It wasn't my compassion, but yours that we were questioning. I believe I have already established on this or another thread that I am unapologetically selfish.

    Baron,
Katrina was there, in your backyard. You knew it would get to New Orleans in a few days. When is that massive earthquake going to hit Los Angeles? Do you know when?

All of the knowledgeable scientists say it's coming, but they don't know when. But, see, that just gives us more time to prepare, right?

So ....what's being done to avert that disaster? And who pays for it? The citizens who live in the quake zones or the entire fuckin' nation? And if it's the nation, wouldn't it be cheaper just to move the people out of the danger zone now, while there's still time?

Or do we want to wait for the disaster, then have fun throwing around blame for something that we didn't do?
