Earthquake frequency after Japanese quake?

I know that aftershocks are expected to happen after such a strong quake as this one, but we have seen well above 20 M6+ quakes during the last two days. Is that "normal"? And why do we see just about no other M5+ around the globe, all quakes seems to occur close to Japan now? Could this mean that the m8.9 in fact was part of a "foreschock"?

Sorry for the really stupid questions, this things just goes well beyond my reasoning.

Aftershock power and aftershock frequency follow a couple of well known power laws.
    Aftershocks on Wiki

I'll see if I can't come upw ith something a little more useful when I get home from work.

The aftershocks are big because the earthquake was big, and didn't happen anywhere other than Japan.

My layman's guess is that since the major stress point has been released from these two plates, they are moving frequently until they find a new point that sticks. As for there being some larger quake looming, there is a maximum energy level bedrock can hold before breaking, but I can't recall what level that might be. I probably saw it on here after the Sumatra quake, for the same type question.

I predicted Japan would get this quake after the New Zealand quake.
The area has been showing instability recently.
The Tibetan quake the further and mildly related Sumatra quake 2005 so this mean Alaska or the Cascades will shift aswell?

    .

an earthquake happened in tunisia after japan's with a day or something, 4.1, in town in the center, people felt it, but it was nothing, i don't know if it is an effect or something and the last week, on earth was very active with earthquakes, africa, europe, etc... not strong ones anyway

I have a theory which is probably already understood (sorry, it's not my field so I don't know if this is known already), but the theory anyway is that weather (High pressure fronts) can aid in triggering seismic activity.

The hypothesis being that if a High pressure front is large enough to cover a tectonic plate area it's overall pressure would increase tension on that plate causing a reaction at it's fault (Fault being the plate edges usually associated with earthquakes). This would suggest that certain weather conditions will increase the chances of seismic activity.

If this was the case it could aid in detecting potential occurrences in the future, beyond that of just seismic probes.

I'm willing to pretty much dismiss that out of hand...BUT...

It would be something that could be found out with a little trouble through internet research-look through archived weather records and correlate them with seismic activity for as far back as you can.

So if you want to put your typing fingers and time behind that idea...you certainly can...

Well, since the former post was nonsensical, would you care for, the ideas that such a Earthquakes are a result of Nuclear Weapons Exsperiments, or that the Earthquakes are the Result of The the Space Shuttle.

Do you Know what nonsensical actually means.

    Well,
What about upper atmosphere Sonic Booms, We have warnings here in the USA when the space shuttle comes in for landings, 1 earthquake :shrug:scale.

    What about them?

Simply because a sonic boom registers on a seismograph does NOT indicate that it "causes" earthquakes.

Well, then how about the new particle collider,Hadron collider, and its big magnets.

it appears that their could be several Human made events that could induce earthshifts and a resulting earthquake.

Since the natural causes i suggested earilier, regarding the moon, earth and magnetic feild, and the indian ocean quake was not acceptable by the board and deleted. One has to wounder perhaps the board thinks that nothing was the cause of the accident.

A sonic boom causes electromagnetic distrubance over a wide area. a distrubance in the upper atomphere effects a small area on earth which translates to a large shift in area later. just as lighting in its creation and eventual discharge.

Now you're just grasping. What evidence is there to suggest these as a cause?

    Such as?

How does a sonic boom cause electromagnetic disturbance?

    But it doesn't cause earthquakes.

I believe that there are strong quakes happening all over the globe lately, but they aren't all being recorded by the USGS accurately, or even at all in many cases. For the most part, only the earthquakes that can not be hidden from the public due to it's close proximity to human populations are being accurately recorded. Despite measuring stations being located all over the world, including sparsely populated areas, mostly all recorded earthquakes seem to be taking place near relatively densely populated areas. That seems very unlikely to me. Shouldn't the earthquakes be more spread out?

I don't think Japan's 9.0 just happened to be the first 9.0 to happen in a while. I think we've had more all around the world, which intentionally were not recorded in order to keep the public in the dark, and keep the overall earthquake stats within "normal" frequency parameters.

But then again I am a conspiracy theorist, so you shouldn't listen to me.
