    That quote confirms that Bush is the topic (or at least a major part of it).

    If all they wanted was a time-frame reference, they would have said "modern-day America" or "early 21st century America" or something along those lines.

    And the facts that the the album focuses on " the President's mistakes and injustices" and that they hope it "will increase the number of young Democrats" makes the political motives that much more obvious.

    not if they wanted to focus on the time period of the bush admin

    No one is denying the album is political 21 century breakdown is also rather political.

    It could have been phrased "early 21st century" and this would have included both of Bush's terms as president. If the Bush administration was specifically mentioned, it's for a reason.

    People aren't denying that it's political per se, but some people seem to think that it's not based at least in part on Green Day's opinion of Bush.
