I was just thinking about the lack of learning about the bad things that our nations have done in history classes, and well i wonderd if you ever learned about that war?

Well to tell the truth they may tell us that we lost FULLSTOP, but they wouldn't have made parades and holidays about it like america.

If I'm not mistaken that was the occassion that we (the Brits) burned the White House and the Capitol Building. It's how we used to deal with terrorists masquerading as freedom fighters.

Back in the days before Geneva conventions and such. I fear that the West has lost its taste for war at precisely the worst time in history. I mean---look at how the world reacts to things like Guantanamo. It is sad that some of the enemy combatants which were freed from the prison were later found dead on battlefields in Afghanistan and Iraq (at least, that's what the BBC tells me---I heard it in a radio interview the other day, but can't find a source to link to...Wikipedia is the best I can do: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_released_Guantanamo_prisoners_who_allegedly_returned_to_battle).

So, who knows... It is certainly preferable to give our enemy the same treatment that we expect, but I don't know if this is tenable in the types of battles it looks like we'll be facing in the future. For example, US doctors treat injured Iraqi fighters, while injured American soldiers are decapitated and tortured.
