Do you think that torturing a baby is ever justified?

If your God comes across as a sadist, then it doesn't deserve worship.

Either convert to a nicer religion or just stop believing altogether.

(Except if they're baby chimpanzees. Then they're evil. All chimps are evil.)

I can't imagine so, but I wouldn't rule it out completely. Maybe torturing a baby will get someone else to do something important.

Torture is just fucking wrong. Torture of babies? Even more so.

My God does come across as good but no argument on bible God.

What you say is wise though and has been said before. Check this link at about the 16 min. mark. The whole link is worthy of listening to though.

    http://www.pbs.org/moyers/journal/03132009/watch.html

Rabbi Hillel, the older contemporary of Jesus, said that when asked to sum up the whole of Jewish teaching, while he stood on one leg, said, "The Golden Rule. That which is hateful to you, do not do to your neighbor. That is the Torah. And everything else is only commentary. Now, go and study it."

Please listen as to what is said about literal reading.

"Origen, the great second or third century Greek commentator on the Bible said that it is absolutely impossible to take these texts literally. You simply cannot do so. And he said, "God has put these sort of conundrums and paradoxes in so that we are forced to seek a deeper meaning."

Not your God it seems, for sure. I am not that evil.

Is that your apology to justify baby torture and murder?

    Fail.

True but that was not the case in the examples used.

I can imagine some unlikely scenarios that might pass but as a general rule, I agree with you.
