"Do These Pants Make Me Look Fat?" Question

Which begs the question, why? Why prefer to be lied to?

It seems to me that some people are so used to making it all up as they go along that the very idea of the truth is lost on them; they don't know what an honest opinion is, let alone an ability to recognise one for what it is.
