Creating Jobs with Desire and Fear

    If you look at the creation of jobs, the most obvious motivator in the free market, that drives demand to create jobs, is desire. The auto manufacturer has beautiful people helping to advertise their cars, so the young man/woman is motivated by a desire to own one of their models. The cars are sexy and attractive. Coke is advertised as being better than Pepsi, not because of fear, but because it is the real thing; soulmate. The young male buys a new computer or phone the next year, not because the old is worn out, but because the new one is sexier with better attributes; stacked or hung well.

    The Government, on the other hand, also creates jobs. Their main marketing approach is less about desire, as it is about inducing fear. as the motivator to buy, so jobs can appear. The Bush Administration created a lot of national security jobs because of the fear of a terrorists after 911. Fear in airports created even more jobs. The EPA jobs protects us from the fear of chemicals. OSHA creates jobs to protect us from the fears of the scary things in the work place. While Obama Care was about the fear of sickness and the fear of rising medical costs people could not afford. The Military, police, judicial and prison jobs is all about fear.

    There are exceptions in both in the private and public sector. The sales of guns, by the private sector, uses both fear and desire. Hunters are lured by the desire for the new finely crafted gun bodies. While security conscious people, buy guns out of fear of burglars or out of fear of the over reach of the government.

    Relative to Government, agencies like the modern NASA stimulate the desire of the young scientists to explore the sexy universe. While NASA originally formed because of the fear the US would fall behind in the space and arms race of the cold war years.

    Whereas the desire approach often stimulates competition; Coke and Pepsi, which then compete to gain market share, the fear approach tends to closer to monopolistic, resulting in waste and inefficiency. The hunter who desires a gun ,will not just take anything offered, but will shop around to find the best style and deal. But the home owner who is motivative by fear is more willing to settle with what is there. The result is although fear can create jobs quickly, it is less efficient in terms of goods and services.

    There is another type of job creation strategy, that teams up fear with desire. This is common to the unwritten job creation alliance between the Government and the Black Market; victimless crimes. These crimes do not have a victim, other than as a sales pitch abstraction (marijuana). This begins with marketing fear, that creates the presumed need for jobs in law and law enforcement for protection. Prohibition then creates curiosity and temptation which stimulates an unconscious desire. This desire from fear, favors the free market called the black-market; stressful desire. These two job creators, feed off each other, amplifying the marketing of fear, which amplifies the fear induce desire, such that the number of jobs on both sides can increase rapidly. The interface is the lawyers who gain jobs playing both ends agains the middle. One side makes laws of fear, and the other undermines the laws of fear to justify the desire.

    Although a lot of jobs can be created with the fear/desire strategy, it creates the needs for fear based scapegoats, so the marketing can light the fuse for jobs. That of itself is the nature of the beast. Maybe one way to improve this approach, to make it more equitable for all, is to rotate the scapegoats, so those who currently benefit all the time, get to play the role of the scapegoat, the next time.

    Lawyers always seem to get the good end of the stick. So we can sales pitch an abstraction of fear of lawyers so they become the scapegoats in the victimless crime. The beauty of victimless crimes is there does not have to be a real victim, just perception. This allows anyone to play the role. Those who were scapegoated the last time, get a good job. Then next time we rotate 90 degrees so maybe government official are the scapegoats. Again this is victimless crime ,so they don't have to do anything to anybody. It is all about perception like any market strategy to create jobs.

    Problem is that there's not enough tax dollars to pay for all these new jobs. This is why America is in debt over 18 TRILLION dollars.

    No, it isn't. The sources of America's debt are well known, and new job creation is much less than a twentieth of it.

    Your way of thinking is why we have so many monetary problems. Everything that the Fed does that increases personnel will cause the debt/deficit to rise. Although to you it might not be that much it is still a factor on the bottom line.

    um no its was reagan and bush 2 irresposible reduction of revenue. lets see the Us debt explosion started under reagan must be liberal's fault. if we go pack to the pre reagan tax rates and get enough common sense based liberal ideas controling are spending the debt would start decreasing

    Just to get things correct the Democrats controlled Congress for over 40 years out of the past 60 and they were the ones who started to give away more money that they took in.

    Congress votes for the spending/taxing not the President so the truth is that problems are started with the Democrats spending more rather than the Republicans who want to tax more.

    actually the president makes the budget congress approves it. this is basic civics. and if you learned how to read a graph or diagram you'd note that the senate was republican for most of reagens reign and both house and senate were republican when bush decided to go to war while cuting taxes( a dubious historical fact and complete idiocy) so thanks for proving my point. though I would suggest you reading your own sources.




    actually republicans are the spenders increasing government at a spending rate 50% higher than democrats and republicans are anti tax. so no the problems didn't start with democrats but with your party of greed. congress's apropreiations bills are a reflection of the budget presented to them by the president so you have failed in your attempts to prove the republican debt belongs to the democrats. typical republican incapable of having any sort of responsibility for their own actions. at best your ignorant at worst a liar misrepresenting facts for partisan reasons.

    The topic I was trying to address, which is unique, was not so much Democrat versus Republican, but the creation of jobs using marketing pitches centered on fear and/or desire. The marketing of product/services, to create jobs is more or less divided between these two emotions, with Government using fear marketing more often, while the private sector tends to use desire marketing more often. Both political parties use fear.

    When Apple comes out with a new iPhone, they do not market this using scare tactics, like if you don't buy the next iPhone the sky will fall or the poor all suffer. They introduce a new sexy design with enhanced features that make you wish to buy because it catches your eye and imagination like a pretty gal. They don't try to make you run away from something, out of fear, into their arms ,so they can protect you as their sales pitch to create jobs.

    Although a few industries in the private sector like to use fear. The insurance industry likes to scare you with risk, so you buy products to alleviate fear. However, within the free market, where there is competition between insurance companies selling the same fear, each will try to lure you with the desire such as saving money or good services. The desire pitch competition helps to lower costs.

    Women often dress for other women, more than for men, so make-up could be at least part fear based; self defense. While Budweiser is selling fun and not the fear of dehydration. Lawyers sell with fear of someone doing you wrong, with scammers also seeing a weaker desire pitch that can result if you have a good angle; hot coffee burn.

    Government is different in that both parties most often use the fear template. The Republicans may sell more national security, using the fear of threats, to help create jobs. The Democrats may sell fear of getting sick or hurt to create jobs in the Affordable Care bureaucracy, EPA and OSHA.

    Hospitals sell fear of sickness and cancer and thereby funnel you for job creation. It is not coincidental that government would try to combine itself with the guru's of free market fear; Government, Insurance, Medical and Lawyers. The rising costs and the lowering level of services that will result will have the impact of removing competitive desire, until there is only a single payer fear factory in the image of Government. It is hard to reduce the size of the government because both sides will up the fear marketing, until the sales pitch justifies the need of the expanded labor force.

    As a hypothetical, what would happen if government had to market only with desire, like Apple selling the new iPhone, when trying to create jobs through a new agency. It would have to be a good product, that people desire, without fear. Others agency start-ups would need to compete with a desire for their services, to create jobs in their agency. This would require people feeling they are getting a lot of bang for their tax buck, like in the free market. Fear is not about quality but whatever it takes which can get expensive and wasteful.

    No, it isn't. You blamed the US debt on paying for new jobs, and that is not even close to reasonable. Rejecting silly delusions like that does not cause monetary problems - voting for politicians chosen and financed by Sheldon Adelson and the Koch brothers, and buying their bullshit, does.

    Bullshit. You are attempting to blame the Reaganomic tax cuts, the banking deregulation, the housing bubble, and two land wars in Asia on top of Reagan's unprecedented peacetime military buildup, on the Democratic Party, and the only excuse would be if you weren't around then and haven't bothered to find out what happened and who did it. Is that the case?

    I am not sure what you think that chart says, but it isn’t relevant to nor does it support your claims of Republican fiscal conservatism. Below is a chart showing US debt. It shows Democratic congress have reduced the debt and Republicans have increased the debt. Notice, the Reagan era, the Great Conservative, actually increased the national debt. Notice the Clinton administration reduced the debt, George Bush Junior and his buddy Deficits Don’t Matter Cheney ran the debt through the roof.

    In the spirit of the OP, I'ver been watching the product ads on TV - the "I've fallen and I can't get up" theme is still common, along with a bunch of ads capitalizing on people's fear of social embarrassment and rejection (bad breath, yellow teeth, body oder, unsightly or dirty hair, excessive fat, unattractive diseases, disappointed children, inferior electrical gadgets, it's a long list). People also fear car accidents, need life insurance, and suffer from insufficient sexual potency along with back pain.

    Marketing to insecurity and fear, often instilled by the marketer in the first place, is obviously a major endeavor of private enterprise in the US.

    If we want to work good we need a functioning imagination and a palpable belief. We need to feel good, chill, and find function. We all have soul purpose. People need to fit in. I want to be a thinker, I want people to like what they do.
