    Australia.

Originally from Russia, now citizen of Australia. It's multicultural, easy to live in, good economy, the people are relatively nice... There's scum everywhere... But they're not as bad here. The streets are considerably safer than most parts of the world. Plus the city in which I live in (Sydney) is beautiful at day and at night. It's part of the commonwealth, has a democratically elected gov.

    Finland.

It is supposed to be a republic. The president is a woman. You can catch her on the streets sometimes. It's one of the last socialists beachheads left in Europe. That is the structure of its society is still laced with socialists values. And it works.

    hardly any bureacracy.

Everything is simple. Nothing to worry about.

People are honest and real people.

    Climate is shit.

    Lots of nature.

    Good nightlife.

Language is a tough nut to crack.

bhutan without a doubt, they have done what all countries should have done and instead of mindlessly advancing technology, they have stayed at their peak, with a semi-agrarian nature loving society. it is as close to perfection as you can find in terms of countries.

I'm British but I'm rather fond of Germany. It was the place of my birth and I spent a few years there. The people are nice and to the point and they have a surprising sense of humour.

I hope to be stationed there when I've finished my REME training next year.

    China,

because of there martial arts roots,
    because of there rich history,
    because of its natural beauty,
because of its ancient teachings and philosophies,
because of its language and written texts,
because of the amazing feats of the people of the country (ie shaolin monks)
because of there culture and social gatherings, (everyone gathering each morning in the village/town to practise taiji/qigong/bagua,

    many many other reasons,

    peace

I must second Spuriousmonkey: Finland is my favourite country overall. Also I agree all the attributes he mentioned above for the exception of climate. I find Finnish climate quite torlable: If you are active and like snowboarding, and don't like bloody hot summer and don't mind cool temperature, there should be no complain (not to mention I don't mind little sunlight there).

I go to Finland virutually every winter to see my friends and they are so mellow and real - a direct contrast to many Americans indeed. Finnish people are kinda inbetween Western Euros and the Russians in terms their characteristics in which they possess only the positive side of both populations. They are very modern/civilised yet at the same time less snoby and pushy. They are also very introverted like the Germans without being stuck-ups. They are very efficient without being pennywise. Even though their food (esp. bread and koffee) is quite delicious, they don't brag about them. And they are generally quiet (you see, I cannot deal with loud people). And you can go out at 3am and feel very safe walking alone on streets. Women are very direct and they don't play 'games' with men like American women do. And there is no fundamental religious people like Americans.

In terms of beauty in people, I think Denmark seems the highest. Virtually all Danes - both female and male - have extremely good posture and are fit.

In terms of landscape, I like Norway the best (tons of place to snowboard/mountainbike!).

I like Germany, too (heh, beer is darn cheap compared to Finland or elsewhere).

At any rate, everytime I visit Finland, I feel like immigating there. The contrast between the States (I am currently in Philadelphia) is Heaven and Hell. I highly recommend everyone for visiting Finland.
    best,

assuming you are a fast walker, and you walk 10 hours a day, expect about 95 days.
    (6350km/7kmph/10hours per day = 93.5 days)

For me, it would be Iran. There I'd never have to think about things ...they'd tell me just exactly what to think and what to do. Ahh, the simplicity of it all.

China has a great historical past, but today it is becoming a modern super power just like the U.S. The Cultural Revolution under Chairman Mao destroyed a hell of a lot of those beautiful historic relics of the past: ancient pagodas, palaces, temples, shrines. There are more outwardly expressive activities of China's ancient historic past in Taiwan today than in Mainland China. Much of the spiritual roots in Mainland China have now crumbled to the march towards capitalism and materialistic progress.

I see gatherings of morning exercises to practise taiji in Taiwan and Hong Kong; but not in Mainland China. Although I may be wrong here since it's such a large country how can anyone see it all? But where I have been, I haven't seen it. Everybody gets up early and the usual daily crowded assembly to get to work begins.

Likewise, the once extremely beautiful "natural beauty" of China has given way to what I would say is the most polluting country on the face of the Earth. I have yet to ever see a stream, creek, runoff, or river in China that wasn't extremely polluted, obviously devoid of any life, and dead. Chinese in general could care less about th increasing pollution.

You will find the "ancient teachings and philosophies" at the universities in China, just as well as you can find them in the states.

Because Mainland China is now using the "simplified" form of Chinese characters, this takes away from the aesthetic beauty of the original "language and written texts."

Australia or Canada: because of the pristine wilderness areas that you can still find. Pristine wilderness is an aspect of Nature that is quickly declining and will vanish within our lifetime.

Okay, fine, no China - it's too crowded and dirty.

My second choice would be Canada, under the same reasoning as Valich.
