There is no one way to understand children. Each child is different and every child grows up in a different environment. For kids to be successful, listen to their interests and help them to expand on that. Talking usually helps in most situations.

be honest and open with your kids, and dont try and skirt sensitive issues, for example if a 6yr old comes to you and asks "mummy why have i got a willy and my sister hasnt" well if they are old enough to ask that sort of question then they are old enough to be told the truth and not some stupid lie.

listen to your kids when they talk to you, make time for them, and supervised screw ups i find also make for kids being god kids, let them learn by they're mistakes, and don't try and live through them either, they will resent you in the end, but baron is right perants have been asking that same question for years and will continue to do so

Many "good" parents have nightmare children. Likewise many nightmare parents have well adjusted children. Of course, this is not the norm.

I am of the belief that your children must successfully internalize the values and beliefs you wish them to adhere to. For example, instead of threatening to confiscate the Wii unless the child leans his or her room, teach the child to internalize the idea that a clean room is to be desired.

The hard part is getting the kid to internalize the values, of course.

A well-known fact or something you just made up so that you can hear others state that we should beat the crap out of kids?

Perhaps, the "facts" have more to do with the parents than the children.

It seems to me that many child behavior problems are created by the parents and their irrational or self-serving demands they make on the child.

again lets jump on the mum and dads parenting skills for the children, what about the kids who have had a brilliant upbringing and still they're kids are ass holes, yeah sure there are bad parents however i had bad parents but i am a law abiding citizen and raise my kids in a good way.

You always blame the parents and I just wonder if you are a parent yourself or you are just bluffing as usual . The world has changed too much and nowadays education is compulsory in many countries, hitting the kids is outlawed .....etc. With new rules come new challenges too .

You must be devastated now that you can't beat the crap out of children. But, you probably will, anyways.

Must be that "peaceful" Islamic upbringing.
