It's saddening to see that those psychotic parents destroyed this little girl's life from little on and are continuing with it and nobody is stopping them, no they are supporting them in slowly killing her by giving her extreme doses of medications.

    No.

    What happens when we sleep?

And you shut the fuck up. They're doing the best they know how.

    It's quite simple really..

The father is brutally honest. Remember that he and his wife are also mentally ill. And I doubt he actually starved her. Many parents send their children to bed without dinner in a bid to get them to behave.

That child is under constant medical supervision.. Do you actually think they would leave her in the parents care if the parents were beating her and starving her? Think about it for a few minutes..

"Jani would fly into rages that would last 5-15 minutes. During this time, when we tried to discipline her, she would hit us, scratch us, bite us, and kick us. People thought we were raising a brat. Even our own families thought this. We were so worried about trying to explain ourselves that we didn't notice at first that Jani's eyes changed when she went into this rages. We didn't put it together that a five year does not swing from 'I love you, Daddy' to 'I want you to die!' in seconds. Teenagers do that, not five year olds. Five year olds are still desperate for parental approval.

"Yes, kids have temper tantrums. But Jani would dig her nails into my skin and pull...leaving a bloody track down my arm or face. She would grin while she did this, a demonic grin that would have scared me had I had time to really think about it. But I didn't.

"We tried everything. Positive reinforcement. Negative reinforcement. Hitting her back (I won't tell you how many people told us that all she needed was a good beating). We took all her toys away. We gave her toys away. We tried starving her. We did EVERYTHING we could to try and break her. Nothing worked.

"Even then, it did not occur to us that our daughter was mentally ill. Now I wonder who was really delusional. Susan and I held fast to our belief that Jani was just a misunderstood genius.

    "Then Bodhi was born.

"The violence became so bad that at times Susan and I both lost it and hit Jani as hard as we could. We hit in impotent rage."

    Really think about it..

You should take your own advice to heart.
Of course, filling your child with medications that are threatening the child's health and on top of that do not work is doing 'their best they know how'. It's like this parents who think because their child is too curious and likes to be active they need to give it sleeping pills and other pills that will calm the child down just because the parents are too freaking lazy and stupid to bother taking care of an active and intelligent child. Give them whatever excuse you want, it will never be enough of an excuse for destroying said child's life.

It does work to an extent. Someone's tried to explain that:

I still have some sympathy for the parents though not as much as before.

The little need for sleep suggests there is something super-human indeed about her physical make-up. I'm surprised that scientists aren't interested in finding out what combination of factors exactly is producing this level of energy.

( A little off-topic) I read an essay once that speculated maybe it was an autistic man that first invented the wheel. The conclusion was that nature produces 'abberations' on purpose, for its own preservation. (of course the article explained it better).

    Yes, I know.

Hitting back to show her that violence is not acceptable, or simply to get her off you, is one thing. Losing it and whacking a kid as hard as you can is quite another.

My mom has looked after my grossly disabled autistic brother all his life and she has never resorted to that.

    'Fraid so.
I think they have a horrible problem.
You still can't take your frustrations out on a child.

Clearly prejudiced by my history here, but I stand by that opinion.

Prejudiced? Bullshit. Nobody is ever justified in flipping out and hitting a kid as hard as they can.

I know wondering if my dad was going to lose it and kill me*this time* was not fun, so not objective here. Sorry.

The parents admit to suffering from mental illness too. I don't understand why the state isn't trying to help more, if she is such an extreme and unusual case.
That the parents are at the mercy of their insurance provider when it comes to Jani's care I find amazing.

On a more trivial (physical) aspect of her mental illness, I'm just curious how a human body can store up /expend all that energy without requiring much sleep. Granted it is at the expense of her brain, but does anyone have an idea which chemical her brain might be producing naturally?

Does anyone know if ADHD sufferers actually produce adrenalin (for instance) all day long instead of only in special circumstances as with 'neurotypicals'?

I seem to remember ADD inattentive (Which I have almost all the symptoms of, just nobody willing to diagnose-DX me) is associated with being overweight...you will munch on stuff out of boredom.

So yeah, I just get bored and easily distracted...but what I like I bore into with the intensity of a diamond drill-bit. Add the motor restlessness, and you have ADHD.
The one time I took an SNRI (Serotonin-Norepinephrine Reuptake Inhibitor) I went really insane, so I guess a DX wouldn't do much good either.

I just wish his actions didn't still affect me. Oh well, wish in one hand, crap in the other...

Your brother was not spending half his time trying to kill himself or anyone in the house either, was he? I'll put it into some perspective... This girl tried to eat her brother.. consume him.. because that is what the voices told her to do and so she did it.

People wonder why the parents may have snapped and hit her back or challenged the voices?

Are you aware, for example, that the parents were actually investigated for child abuse? That the investigations were quite extensive and lasted quite a while and the results were that the child had not been abused in any way? All of which is documented by the father in his blog?

Also, the parents themselves admitted what they did.. They aren't proud of it. This was before the child was ever diagnosed.. No one knew what was wrong. They were on a crash course dealing with a child who would enter these fits of rage and try to kill them at any time of the day or night, a child they had previously assumed was merely very gifted or some kind of prodigy instead had turned into someone who CK previously determined sounded possessed.. The girl's parents also documented, prior to admitting to hitting her and not feeding her in the hope she would actually behave (ie send child to bed without meal is a widely used punishment around the world), that they had everyone around them telling them that they should discipline her more severely or give her a good and solid thrashing. So when all else failed, they did and they admitted it openly and described how they did it. They don't appear to be proud of it, do they? Nor was it something they repeated.

At the time, they were broke, in need of psychiatric care themselves, with a psychotic child who was getting worse and worse and more violent towards herself and those around her, with doctors having no clue what was wrong with her and they had zero support from the medical profession at that time, and none from their family or friends.. They snapped and they admitted it. I am not one to defend child abusers.. I don't see them as abusers. I see them as being abused themselves and I really don't think anyone is in a position to judge them at this point in time.

My brother also has regressions in which he attacks himself and us, pees on things, shits on things and screams bloody murder.

Neither my mother or myself have ever flipped out and lashed out at him.

And sorry, but IMO sending someone to bed without a meal is wrong. Hypoglycemia anyone??

How much did she actually eat?
    A finger or two?
    A leg?

My sister was jealous of her younger brother and started strangling him.
But she did it when she could be stopped.
    No harm done.
She's now a pillar of the community.
