Might revive this now 2 year old thread...... Anyone done anything really exciting in the last couple of years?
I try not to at my age. I break easily these days. Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!

How about cutting the throat of a patient to save her life? Don't all faint She had just returned to the ward following a thyroid operation The region is notorious for bleeding All patients with this operation have a scalpel taped to the bedhead I was tidying up the area when I noticed she appeared to be in distress On the way over I saw her throat was massive size and fear in her eyes 3 buzzes get the scalpel cut the stitches watch the blood and clots gush out step out of the way as the crash cart arrived to take over help push the bed back to OT go home in a daze Best thing I did for a long time until delivered my (a patient's not mine) first baby
Not to try to one-up that at all, but I prevented a gunfight once by putting myself in the middle and reasoning with both sides of the standoff. It took about three hours, but I left with the firearms, and nobody got hurt. I shook like a drunk, cried like a baby, and puked like a dog when the adrenaline wore off...
Way to go Don't worry about stupid ideas of one up Your achievement in no way detracts from anybody else's actions I would say in my situation I was partially trained whereas in your case not sure if you would be prepared for where you found yourself OK OK your one up on me Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image! Nope. I'm not trained, but you do what needs doing when you're there. Like I said, afterwards really sucked. You are trained, apparently, and you can stand up under daily pressures like what you described. Not me! Once in a lifetime is just fine, thank you!
I certainly don't know how I would react, but hopefully, in a similar vane to yourself. Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image! Good stuff!
I don't remember much over the next 2 days I can add although at that time I was only about 1 year into the 3 year Registered Nurse course But as the possibility of the type operation to bleed was well known all staff were given spacific details of what to do It happened a second time for that patient and another staff member dealt with it She did make a full recovery
