    Tar
    Arsenic
    Cadmium and nickel
    Vinyl chloride
    Creosote
    Formaldehyde
    Polonium 210

not to mention nicotine, a very deadly substance more addictive than heroin, that not only effects the body but also alters the mind, great for a pregnant woman and baby to have to suffer.

for a modern "advanced society" we sure are a bunch of wankers arent we.

    peace.

When you live amongst other people, you sometimes have to deal with things you don't like. You do have a choice of where you live. You can either live among smokers, or you can find a non-smoking apartment to live in.

We're talking about a smell from a guy smoking in a seperate part of the house. It's not healthy, but it's also not nearly as harmful as it would be if he were blowing the smoke in the baby's face all the time.

Doesn't change anything though, he (apparently) lives in place that allows smoking. If he doesn't like it he can move to a non-smoking area, god knows there's plenty of those around.

maybe he cant afford to move right away, maybe he is saving up for his child and cannot get a deposit to lay down on a new apartment. or maybe he is not allowed to leave the apartment yet because the contract is not up.

maybe he wants to move to a non smoking place but because of current situations he is unnable to.

we should ask before jumping to assumptions.

Maybe he should have thought about those things before he moved into that place, especially if he's that opposed to smoking. He could try asking the guy to smoke outside, but presumably the guy has every right to be smoking there.

Well, he has enough to lay out each month for Internet service ...that's about, what, $50 per month. And with the time he spends here at sciforums, he could get a second job and make still more money. Hell, he could move out in a month or so!!

So ....is it really all that important to him, or did he just want to complain about something???

i think its important to him when he can smell smoke and it triggers the reaction, bt when he cant smell it then it doesent bother him,

and his wife is pregnant so he needs to pass on the bs thats thrown his way somehow

i have never thought of doing that. whenever i hear a storm my reaction is always "quick run outside bear chested and train"

i love it when it hails stones the size of golfballs (not so often), im like yeah its on!. lets rumble mother nature.

lucky i live in england whre we dont get tornados, i wouldent want to have to whoop its ass, i would like to take shots of lightning. is it hard to get it fast enough before it goes away?

    peace.

It's easier at night since you can just keep the shutter open for a few minutes at a time. During the day I might get 1 or 2 shots of lightning per roll of film, but they're worth it

i love extreams of the weather, especialy watching clouds thunder across the skyline at high speeds. here in england we get very strange weather changes,

one second it can be a clear and sunny day, then 10 mins later bang a full on thunderstorm, it is not strange for it to be sunny/warm/rainy/snowing all in the same day here,

english weather is unpredictable, you will go out in shorts and a t shirt and come back needing tim boots jeans and a huge jacket, or the other way around.

    peace.

You seem to have trouble grasping the subtle distinction between personal space and public space. You must live in one of those European nanny-state socialist worker's paradises, where there's no privacy and everything is everybody else's business. I am not defending anyone's right to blow smoke or toxic fumes into anyone's face in a public place, or even outdoors. What I am defending is the right of each one of us to do whatever the hell we want in the privacy of our own home. I even understand the concept of compromise and reasonable limits. I don't expect to be able to practice my electric bass at performance volume at 3am or to establish an indoor skunk farm... unless I'm back home on my five-acre lot in California, which we bought precisely because the neighbors are too far away to hear or smell anything we do.

Dammit, the Red Party--oops I keep forgetting it's the Green Party now--has not taken over the world yet. People get to smoke inside their homes. If his precious little baby's respiratory system is so bloody sensitive that he has an allergic reaction to somebody smoking on the next floor, then he is a one-percenter and he's just going to have to make accommodations for himself. The world hopefully is not going to tie itself into a pretzel to accommodate every weirdo with an allergy that would have killed off his whole bloodline if he'd lived two hundred years ago. There are so many non-smokers now that there are plenty of non-smoking apartment houses, he can go find one. In America they're cheaper, landlords charge more for smoker's lodgings because they have to be cleaned and painted more often; I can't believe that it's not the same in Oh-So Red--oops I mean Green--And Progressive Europe.

If he's telling us that his place is just a bloody dump and the smoke seeps through the gaps in the ceiling, or there's no A/C so he has to leave the windows open for six months out of the year and breathe everything that blows in, then I don't know what to say except to repeat my original statement that he apparently made a decision to raise a family in poverty instead of getting an education and a career first. By the goddess, he's just going to have to live with the results of his own foolish choices like we all have to. And the world is overflowing with children who have to live with the results of their parents' foolish choices, that's the way the world works.
But he already has one child. Why hasn't he already worked this out? Why is he having a second one when he doesn't seem to be able to provide what he believes is a satisfactory home for the one he already has?
Yeah it was actually. I've had it with this damn "It takes a whole village to raise a child" bullshit. It takes two parents with only a modest level of competence. The parents who expect their neighbors to stop smoking because they can't be bothered to finish their education and get started in a decent job before they have children and have to live in a hovel, are the same parents who want their neighbors to pay for the school system because they don't pay enough taxes to support it, and the same parents who bitch about four-letter words on TV because they can't afford a TV with a V-chip.

No. But you are allowed to do the equivalent. Of course, because the government is totally logical! :bugeye:

at this point in time i would have given almost anything if someone cared enough about me to ensure i wasn't fucking up my lungs by exercising my rights.
yes indeed you have a right to shoot yourself in the head if you want to.

the crazy thing is that i felt exactly like you do fraggle when i was smoking.
