There's also the socialist part of this. When we enter into socialized medicine, we all become financially responsible for reatrds fucking up.
    Which is a bummer.
    Hence, laws.

This is fascism. There should be no victimless crimes. If I want to eat foods made with trans-fats, it's my own business! If I want to smoke, drink, do drugs, not exercise, and die of a sudden heart attack at fifty or sixty rather than spending the last twenty years of my life in a nursing home, so be it.

We will all die of something. We are not immortal. Avoid heart disease, cancer will get you. Avoid cancer, alzheimer's gets you. Or maybe mad cow.

The safety nazi's know this, they simply have a desire to control. They are morally offended at the sight of someone eating a donut and seek to put an end to it.

Sam, you are no different than the closed minded right wing hicks seeking to arrest people for sodomy. Live and let live, Sam. Let the fat man have his donut!

Let Colonel Sanders live! Viva la KFC! Give me crispy creams, or give me death! Don't tread on trans-fats! You can have my donut when you pry it from my cold dead hands.

Sorry, got carried away there for a minute. But seriously, this is ridiculous.

I recall reading somewhere that when cooking oils were superheated to make them more resistant to going stale (which makes any cooking medium toxic) is when the incidents of heart disease started appearing epidemic - also interesting is that a ayurvedic cure for clogged arteries is taking reasonable quanities of cows ghee - a person I know was in a condition on the brink of requiring immediate surgery but they overcame it with this - of course they had to get traditionally made cow's ghee - the stuff that is commercially available doesn't do the trick

But not as good as chips made with trans-fats! And, Sam, that's just the very problem that you fail to see ...while you might say they're pretty good, that does NOT equate to the taste of others. Please, please, understand ....you and people like you are doing nothing, advocating nothing, but controlling others to your own view.

As long as people know and have the choice between eating either, thats their problem. If people want to continue eating crap then they can go ahead. The only problem is that in the UK, the National Health Service gets bogged down with health problems that could have been avoided.

The best chips are the ones laced with heroin. Apparently we should start selling those according to Baron Max.

I was aiming for non-commital. In my opinion they taste much better.

What do you use to fry stuff at home, margarine or oil?

Well, sure ...I guess. But since it's your thread, and the topic was basically about how great it was for the governemt to ban trans-fats, then I made the obvious connection. Sorry ...but I hope you can see how easy it was.

I use mostly Olive Oil, but if I really want something to taste extra good, I use pure lard ...rendered fat from pigs! No, Sam, I am NOT joking! Foods fried in pure lard are the tastiest of all fried foods.

Neither olive oil nor lard contain trans fats.

(unless the pigs are being fed hyfrogenated fats, then their lard may contain TFAs, as does ours under similar circumstances)

Geez, Sam, I didn't say they did! You asked the question, I answered it. From now on, I won't answer your questions, okay?

Denmark banned trans fat years ago - seeing it as a threat to the health of people - the mcdonalds in Denmark is the only place in the world where you don´t get trans fat in your burger ......

    http://www.tfx.org.uk/page116.html

Damn those danes - ahead of US in everything , better economy, better wellfare, free medicare, free education , liberal thoughts on religion and muhammedcartoons - and now this final blow: forcing mcdonalds to serve healthy food !!!!! ...... is there no ends to the misery we have to suffer from the vikings - they even claim to have discovered America .......

Those who speak easily of death have nothing to fear of it, then, as life and death are trivial.

We all die of or from something, but many of us don't need to die 30-40 years before our time. Trans fats have no use in human health, and no beneficial use to our society, except gross and unnecessary waste, illness, and death.

If it had no beneficial use, then no one would use it! Restaurants use it for a reason, whether you agree with that reason or not.

Who are you to tell someone else what they can and can't use? Would you want others to tell you want to do, what to use, what not to use?

Forcing ones ideals, opinions and methods onto someone else simply can't be and shouldn't be tolerated by even the most avid doo-gooder! To do so is nothing short of totalitarianism or dictatorship. Is that what you want?

You're right ...life and death IS trivial! It's only the human ego-centricism that tries to make it anything else. Humans have been living and dying for millions of years, for all kinds of reasons, and they're going to keep living and dying. Just that very principle makes life and death trivial in the grand scheme of things. Don't let your ego get the best of your good sense.

There is no beneficial use in the sense that using it does not make a meal more nutritious. Restaurants use it because it is a cheap alternative to butter and other oils and fats.

Yeah, see? So it IS beneficial for the restaurants ....and that's not what you admitted to earlier!

I say again .....why should you or anyone else be permitted to force someone to do what they don't want or like to do? If the restaurants want to use trans-fats, the customers are not forced to eat there if they don't want to. What could be better than that base freedom for everyone?

If a restaurant wanted to serve fried rat shit, shouldn't it be up to the customers to decide if they want to eat fried rat shit or not?

I've already said that if people make an informed choice its up to them.

But you somehow want to force them to be informed? What if they don't want to be informed, but just like the food?

How much of this bullshit that you're spouting is really and actually YOU wanting to force your opinions onto others???

And do you like it, want it, when others try to do that to you? ...claiming that you don't know enough to make your own choices???? Put the shoe on the other foot, Nick, and see how well you like it.
