I've come across some contenting information about this so I was wondering if anyone could give an answer the following: 1) Are there any contemporary Roman records that claim the temple complex was commissioned by Rome? 2) If there are, do these documents refer to the foundations of the 'Temple of Jupiter' and the vast slabs of megaliths specifically? 3) Are there any other examples of Roman architecture that incorporates giant megaliths? (Obviously I'm not talking about the amont of free-standing obelisks in Rome scavenged from across the world) 4) I've read about a German headed expedition in the early 20th century that reportedly digged through the foundation of the temple and reported them to be Roman, with Roman artifacts found beneath etc. Did this really happen and how well documented was this dig? (I'd expect photographs here etc.)
