    Hello

I have two questions/problems about this .avi:
    1) My Windows Media Player 8 now can no longer play avi files

. Everytime I try it, it always 'asks' for codecs (whatever stupic codec it is) which is never downloaded. Help? By the way, I recently only try DVD rip avi files, maybe there's something to it?
    2) I tried using QuicTime to play it, but it fails as well (perhaps for obvious reason). Is there any good media player which can play ANYTHING?

    Thanks for replies

    Okay, I'll try that thanks.
(though actually, the file I couldn't play have been deleted anyway, I'll look for that again...)

Some of the informations in the links are damn confusing, sadly..... even the MS...... better go mad....

What you need is to download and install the codecs. Don't be confused. Just follow these simple steps:
    (1) Go to http://www.microsoft.com/
    (2) Use their search engine to find "codecs"
    (3) Choose the "Codecs installation package" option
    (4) Download it from there.

    Best of luck!

Try Divx for .avi files and don't bother with Quicktime..it is a mpeg player. Chances are the codecs you need you won't find on Microsoft site and you might actually be using a file encoded in Xvid so you'll need xvid codecs but be warned many of them are viruses...very few good ones exist.

Get the latest build of the divx player for free www.divx.com or if all else fails get veedub to encode an .avi file to your liking.

Besides all the excellent suggestions, I sometimes find ZoomPlayer will work when others don't.
