I never said it was YOUR theory - and I had you figured to be far too intelligent for such nonsense. Especially in light of the fact that we know a tremendous amount about the sources of virii (or whatever the proper plural form of the word is).

the guy never suggested that all viruses arived that way and its hard to argue definitly that NONE come that way which was the only reason i mentioned it. Especially because you can never prove a negitive

On a skale of 1-10 (10 being the most likly) i would rank it around a 1, however the liklyhood of some grand conspiracy to create all these viruses would have to be even lower (0.01), especially when you take into acount that not all countries are like the US where its private companies making money off health care. Most countries goverments would like to cut down the number of diseases there people suffer, not just for humanitarian reasons but also because it costs THEM alot of money.

I always try to keep an open mind

You also seem to be ignoring the fact that practically EVERY country in the entire world has companies that make money from health care including drug production. And Oz is most certainly included in that group.

sure except that again the goverment is doing everything in its power (short of making it illegal to import Meds) to put pressure on those companies to make sure it buys them as cheep as possable. The majority of our meds are heaverly subsdised (rember the US trying to take the Australian goverment to the WTO to shut down the PBS?). Its not in there own best interests to know a company was doing this and not to shut them down

    I agree with cosmic.
My whole family gets flu shots and I don't... And, sure enough, they get wicked flu and I don't.

Sorry, but I really don't know what you're talking about here. Who/what is "PBS" and when did this happen?

Yeah, what's up with that? My brother and a close friend of mine both got the flu shots because of their asthma and they both got really sick afterward. Does the vaccine some how create a live virus within the host or do they even use the virus in flu vaccines?

Wait a tick. Do you have references for that? I am aware that some more virulent strains are species jumpers (from birds to mammals, for instance) but specifically pigs and poultry should be responsible for most influenza outbreaks? Also what is meant with originating in this context?

    sory read only

the PBS is the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme
    http://www.medicareaustralia.gov.au/provider/pbs/index.jsp

as for the case against Australia i can only find this artical because it was so long ago i guess
    http://www.bilaterals.org/article.php3?id_article=4660

basically when Australia signed the Free trade agreement the US wasnt happy with the fact that the PBS gave preferential treatment to drugs by subsidisation. The PBS is compleatly independent of the goverment and is purly based on a cost\benfit assesment by the board which it apears some US drug companies wernt happy with.

The other case against australia had to do with blood products where Australia symply refused point blank to alow ANY overseas surplies into the country. As far as i know we wont even allow NZ to import blood products. Of course here blood isnt concidered a drug but rather a service, we dont pay for blood products at all and we dont get paid for donating blood, its something done freely for the benift of other people

Sure. There are hundreds of references available. Here's just one very brief article - and even though it makes it appear as if it's recent news, it's not. It was a theory going back to the 1950s and was actually first confirmed in the late 1970s. It doesn't make mention of the swine/poulty connection, either but plenty of other articles do. http://74.125.45.104/search?q=cache...-flu17 source of flu&hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=8&gl=us

flu virus shots are created with the live virus in chicken eggs. This is why avian flu is so dangerious because it even kills the eggs. This means we have to fall back on the second best form of vacine creation which is less effective and slow to produce.

Some vacines give the live virus to the person but a less infectious strain (for instance the Small pox vacine) where as others work by just giving the body the antibodies created

I honestly dont know which it is for the flu but i would GUESS the second

I have not gotten the flu- since 3-4 years ago I stopped getting the wasteoftime flu shot.

It's bullshit and wouldn't surprise me one bit if it's filled with shit that is not good for us.

The defense is called an Immune system. If yours is weak...sure depend on the health care industry and cling to life as long as possible. If yours is good, then you are wasting everyone's time getting the flu shot. You are a fucking moron, in fact.

In addition to the info I just gave you, Here is another short blurb directly from the CDC that explains type-A and type-B and how the transition can occur from A, which does not affect humans, to B which does. The swine/poulty linkage is quite evident in this one.

OK, thanks. I still don't see why that would have been a problem for them, though, as long as it didn't affect their prices.

And for what it's worth, only a very, very small percentage of our blood supply comes from paid donations. Most of that is rejected anyway due to infections since it tends to come from "street people" and drug users. What really counts as a source is freely donated - usually through the Red Cross.

But the hospitals that are given that blood charge over $100.00 a pint for it or more depending on the type.

I think because most drugs come from australian companies, the Australian goverment provides subsidies to australian pharmacutical companies i belive through free (or subsided) use of the public hospitals, the unis and CSIRO but its not a free lunch. The idea is to keep them on shore where the goverment can then bully them into providing the drugs at a cheeper rate than could be bought from overseas, especially for PBS meds. NZ doesnt have the population for this to work which means there meds are much more expensive. Aparently Australia offered to include NZ in the deal (i dont know on what terms) but they chose to back out which is strange because it would have benfited us both (we would have had an even larger population to blackmail with and they would have got cheeper meds).

Oh and if thats the case why pay for blood at all?
i assumed it was the whole blood surplie which was bought rather than donated. Money wasnt the reason Australia refused to import though, there are VERY strict rules about who can donate here and we wernt satifided that anyone else could be trusted to stick to those rule. For instance if you have been to the UK in certain years your banned for life because of the risk of mad cow. Some of these rules are being challanged though because they are potentually discrimitory (for instance the one "in the last year have you had sex with a man who has sex with other men" which bans even exclusive gay men from ever donating)

No, it's not! You pay for it through taxes, etc. You may not know where or how much of your taxes go for blood, but you ultimately pay for it. In socialist nations like yours, the cost of social services must come from some where. Wanna' guess where it comes from?

umm no, blood is not bought. Yes there is a transportation cost which is paid through tax (or possably donations to the red cross) but apart from that its freely given and freely recived
