Video games are just entertainment, but they waste a lot of time and energy and keep people from socializing (face to face). Is this bad for culture?

It's to show that gamers really don't socialize. Ha! Ha! Just putting a bunch of people starring at computer screens in the same room is not socialization.

Haha. I was going to say that it was a picture of an attempt to see how many guys that have never been laid could be put in one single space.

I personally think gaming has become popular, especially for guys, because
    1. socializing sucks for some people/some people have no social skills
-no social skills+low low income = no pussy
-why go out and fail miserably with women when you can just turn your PC on and play games
    2. even for the guys who can socialize, playing games is a lot less stressful than dealing with some bitchy g/f.*
    3. gaming gives them a chance to escape reality(and their bitchy gf's)...which tends to suck major ass most of the time

*I'm not trying to bash women, I'm just throwing out ideas why gamers are so serious about gaming

But, aren't there gamer gals who like the video boys?

    What about the married gamers?

I'm not an avid video gamer but often times I'll find a game I really enjoy, play it for about an hour almost every night before bed, beat it (the game), then I won't play another video game for months.

So in moderation, with most things, is fine. Alot of people can't handle themselves (with drugs, alcohol, games, smoking, sex, etc...).

Yeah, but from what I've seen of gamer girls, 1. there aren't very many of them
    2. there aren't many cute ones
    3. I'm sure they get constant attention from the socially inept gamer guys

Most women really don't like guy stuff like this. And I say 'guy stuff' because stuff like this is predominantly done by guys. Not that I wouldn't like to see more women participate. My main hobby is mountain bike freeriding. I'd love to see more women get into mtb'ing; I'd even moreso love to date one, but like I said, not many women are into stuff like this.

Your statement made me think of the one skit with Triumph the insult comic dog where he goes and visits a congregation of Star Wars fans outside of a convention center waiting for tickets or something.
    Anyway, he goes up to one of the scant few (cute one at that) women there and says something to the girl like;
"how does it feel to be surrounded by all these guys who have absolutely no idea how to please you?"
I fell off the couch laughing so hard when he said that.

It's a picture of a lan party. I posted it to demonstrate the fact that video games actually encourage face to face meetings, and a 'scene' which exhibits its own social culture.

Yes, that entire skit was hilarious.

And yeah, most women don't like guy stuff like that. My wife can't understand at all why I play video games. She see's it as such a waste of time. I find it very relaxing and engaging. It's easily better than watching tv.

I know it doesn't apply to everyone but,
That's why the girls that are into 'guy' stuff like that (gaming, biking, cars, etc.) are so coveted by guys. I can't speak for every guy but I'd kill to have a g/f or wife that enjoyed something like that as much as I did. If you can enjoy a major activity/hobby/pastime like that with your girl w/o getting competitive, that is an ingredient for a good relationship. What better way to spend a day with a girl than kickin each others' asses in a heated game of Tekken 5. Hahaha.

Hopefully, mybreath, there is something major (I mean a hobby or recreation, not sex) that you and your wife DO enjoy doing together.

It's relaxing and fun(what would be the point in escape if the game wasn't?). It's no worse than watching TV or sitting indoors listening to music.
Common misconception but gamers actually do socialize, sometimes via the internet, other times at conventions or by inviting friends round for a few beers and a game. Apart from the location there are only minor differences between interacting on the net and being in a bar.
Not everyone wants to go out trying to get laid all the time or socialize with certain types of people or in certain places.
Not everyone's a hardcore gamer either, I know I certainly don't have the attention span for it.
I'm not convinced it's bad in the least bit.

Seems to be some new blood here, I myself am 26 and currently seeking a female for mating purposes... I have never had one you see. Your comments are somewhat interesting.

low low income + no social skills = me!

Women do game, the reason they are usually in low numbers is because the guys they game with have a habit of attempting to socialise with them more than actually game with them.

In the work place it's called Sexual Misconduct to make sexual advances towards someone of the same or opposite sex, since Gaming is seen as socialising those that participate in gaming usually tend not to identify such Sexual Misconduct occuring however it's obviously a factor on the number of female gamers that choose to of course identify themselves as female.

But isn't the game world now the culture - instead of the other way around?

You are seeking a female "for mating purposes"? That's a good line. I doubt there's a female on earth dorky enough to respond to that one.

    Dark,
You must of heard of Sexual Misconduct, thats when someone in a job attempts to be sexual in some form to a boss or staff. It can cause people to lose their jobs and it's obvious that people don't want to be pressured into sexual encounters because of a job or fear of losing it.

The same sort of thing could be suggested to occur with the gaming culture, however because it's a culture there is no policing of such sexual pressures so some males "needs" run amok and potentially spoil the whole gaming environment for the opposite sex.

In other words, if you are there to Game then Game, if you are their to Chat up or make sexual advances then leave the Gaming culture and try one of the many matchmaking sites.
