    Spears, apparently

    Although

Which seems rather remiss to me.

They were probably too busy jumping up and down and throwing feces in excitement when it happened.

So: tool use - including spears - predates Savannah transition. Wouldn't a chimp be more adapted if it used tools better? Brain and hand improvements (some of which could be 'traditional' or educational memes) open up a new niche for walkers.

Elaine Morgan died on 12 July. I just watched a recent television recording. She was spirited and persuasive right to the end. I keep hearing that its a crazy theory but I still keep going back to it. The Savannah Hypothesis has been practically junked now.
