There's alot of mysteries in the universe. Does that mean there has to be a magic even MORE mysterious being behind it? We don't know what causes cancer. To get an asteroid winter I think that implied a type of direct hit not just a skim past the Earth. When I was looking into what one would have to do to survive an asteroid winter I came to the conclusion it would be impossible to prepare for it.
Since Mazula said as God he would be knudging many asteroids towards skipping earth's atmosphere, you'd have to be an idiot not to start preparing for the possibility of eminent impact in such a scenario. Unless you're religious, where you just sit inside a church and grovel day and night before the big invisible man in the sky.
I could think of much easier ways he could have revealed himself, which he has so far completely failed to do.
