I thought they did a good job and the subplots were exciting too. Although the soldier who drove into camp should have infected everybody else. I saw the original and I read the book. All good. In Wikipedia they indicate that the end has a grandfather theory (timetravel) problem, but I didn't see it that way.That was written actually before the series was played on TV...
