Videos posted online of Wednesday's concert in the Ukrainian city of Odessa show bass player Jared Hasselhoff pushing the Russian white, blue and red flag down the front of his pants and pulling it out the back. He then shouted to the audience: "Don't tell Putin," a reference to Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The incident outraged the Russian government. Maria Minina, a spokeswoman for the weeklong Kubana festival in southern Russia, said Saturday that the band's headlining performance the previous evening had been canceled because of its treatment of the flag.

The American band is known for its sexually explicit songs, including "The Bad Touch," with its unforgettable lyrics: "You and me, baby, ain't nothin' but mammals, so let's do it like they do on the Discovery Channel."

Russian Culture Minister Vladimir Medinsky tweeted Friday night that he had spoken with officials in the southern Krasnodar region, known as Kuban. "Bloodhound Gang is packing its bags," he said in the Twitter post. "These idiots will not perform in Kuban."

...and I have observed persons from many other countries acting in the same disrespectful manner you are complaining about. Heck, there have even been foreign nationals who have visited the USA with the sole purpose of blowing up buildings, airplanes and crowds of people as well as themselves. Talk about disrespectful!

You are aware, I assume, that the woman who has been arrested for splashing green paint in the national cathedral, Lincoln Monument and other historic national treasures last week in Washington DC is a Chinese national who has chosen to be homeless in America, right? That the 9/11 attack on the World Trade Center was executed by a bunch of Saudi nationals? The Boston Marathon bombing was done by a couple of immigrants here from Ukraine?

I could go on, but I think that I have made my point here.

Ah - blame? "Who smelt it dealt it." "Don't do the crime if you can't do the time."

I remember, 'cultural' was a lesser point though, in my estimation.

Russia and the United States are both so large that they actually encompass a large variety of diverse cultures despite that they both attempt to put forward an image of a single national culture.

Much as many individual persons do. We must often make a decision then - despite having doubts remaining whether it was the right decision - go ahead and do what we decided to do (considering the entire situation to the best of our ability). We present the illusion of being self - assured in order to accomplish some purpose. So must the great powers.

My gastroenterologist is a Muslim, I am a Buddhist, we are both American. I like him very much and trust him with my life. Several of my friends are Muslim, we all get along very well. One of the things that I very much enjoy about living in Detroit is the ethnic and cultural diversity.

My point is when you go as a representative of you nation represent it with honor and not as an idiot an I feel many of the rockers are just that, assholes.

Think , and be honest , how did you feel when the the halve ass Boston bombers expressed himself to and about America , I am sure it rubbed you the wrong way .

The Tsarnaev brothers were born in Kalmyk and Kyrgyzstan and have lived in several parts of Russia, but their father is Chechen and they regard themselves as Chechens, even though apparently they have never lived in Chechnya. Their mother is Avar, another non-Indo-European ethnic group living in the Caucasus region like the Chechens.

As far as I can tell, they have no Ukrainian heritage, have never lived in the Ukraine, and do not speak the Ukrainian language. They speak Russian and English, and perhaps Chechen, which is related to Avar.

No insult to the Ukraine meant, and "from Ukraine" was a lot easier to type than "from Kalmyk and Kyrgyzstan and several parts of Russia and they regard themselves as Chechens". My bad Frag, sorry.

Those of us who think will recall that we are representing our country when abroad. Those of us who do not think much will miss that point, and I am certain this differs from one person to the next.

As for rockers, I am real clear that they operate under the dictum that "any publicity is good publicity" so are free to do a lot of unwise things in the name of publicity (to make more money) as part of their career efforts. I tend to disregard a lot of what they (as a group) say due to this insight.

I tend to take anything that a terrorist says with more than a grain of salt. This due to having heard and read what many terrorists have said over the years. Quite frankly, I consider terrorists (as a group) to be "fruitcakes", "idiots", "shitheads" and dysfunctional human beings from the get - go and thus disregard any insults they tend to throw around.

The Tsarnaev brothers attacked, killed and maimed people that they did not know for odd, eccentric and spurious purpose. To what end? They killed without reason, honour or skill and the surviving brother even failed at suicide. They did not find mates, marry and reproduce so they have failed their parents, their family and dishonoured themselves. Instead of doing their small part to make this world a better place for all, they have ended their ability to do anything at all.

You don't like this country? Then go someplace else that you find more pleasing. A person or a group that thinks so very highly of themselves so as to 'declare war' on a nation possesses arrogance beyond belief. That measure of attachment to face can only lead to great pain. Killing people - especially people that you do not know and have never had any interaction with - is NOT a statement, it is murder. Not just murder but senseless murder. That puts you in a very special category IMHO, and it tells me that you do not think well enough for me to care what you have to say as your actions have already spoken quite well for how you think. That is why it really didn't matter to me whatever the surviving brother had to say as he has made it very clear to me that he is too stupid to listen to. I vote for solitary confinement for the rest of his natural life.

    This and That

Well of course the utmost Russian cultural ambassadors giving the nation and its people a bad name are outraged.

    Duh.

The interesting thing about our neighbor's complaint is that Bloodhound Gang is a terrible band with one hit song, whose best song musically required the assistance of Rob van Winkle. (No, really. "Bloodhound Gang and Rob van Winkle together on this track"; it's also the best single ever performed by the artist formerly known as Vanilla Ice.) They're cultural ambassadors in the same way teachers try to tell kindergarten students that they represent the school, so behave well on the field trip.

Meanwhile, the ultimate cultural ambassadors of Russia, i.e., the Russian government, is in the process of building a pogrom against homosexuals.

In the end, publicizing this incident will likely increase BHG's record sales both in the U.S. and around the world. Thus, while I'm tempted to say something like, "Where they made their mistake was ...", I'm not entirely certain it was a mistake.

There are plenty of facets to consider, to be certain, but as long as we're supposed to focus on a cultural pissing contest, Russia is disqualified for shitting all over everything.

They Can Always Join the Twenty-First Century ... Whenever They're Ready

Are human rights a purely Western notion? Are they dangerous to Russians?

No, seriously, why do human rights scare Russia witless?

What is interesting to me about this story is that the Russian government noticed/cared. That doesn't happen in the US because the US is a nation where people have freedom. So in their way, the Bloodhound Gang represented us well and the Russian government acted badly. Except that...
....they aren't representatives of the US. Again, the US is a nation of individuals and the Bloodhound Gang does not work for the government.

I must admit that I have thoroughly enjoyed watching the gradual rise of human rights over the years.

It is going to get much more interesting as we go along this path. Russia is sorta stuck in its past, as are the US and China, Britain and the rest of us as well. Despite emancipation there are many Americans who have blown a gasket over having an African American family residing in the white house.

Wait until we grant citizenship and human rights to animals and robots. Oy! The hue and cry there will be!

IMHO, you must run as fast as you can and make a serious constant effort in order to slow the rate at which you fall behind. Progress is a fact as "life is change", you keep up or you fall behind.

You should be ashamed of your bigotry against Russians, after all homophobia is just a sincerely held belief that should be respected. Belittling them for their cultural differences is not productive, you have to understand where they are coming from.

Yes, I'm bigoted against Russians because I think specific attitudes and actions of their government diminish the society. Just like I'm bigoted against Christians because I think the promotion of conspiracy theories suggesting the pope is the personification of evil makes Seventh-Day Adventists look like idiots. And, you know, I'm even more bigoted, aren't I, for recognizing that many SDAs are sick and tired of this illogical distraction plaguing their church, with the result of considerable internecine dispute. Do I have that about right?

Secondly, you really should try to follow the discussion.

Third, the problem with respecting certain cultural differences is the enforcement of inequality. I'm sure you're aware of this, given how much you complain about the inequality and injustice of respecting free religion.

Are you really asserting that creating a public health hazard is a human right?

Now you are hiding yourself behind health hazard , So why don't we have public bath rooms as they have in Europa in some nation.

That thing about inviting a black person into your house pointed by ( Sompini ) we are far behind in human right, comparing south American nations , perhaps the USA just discovered or is discovering human rights So we make of it a big issue .
