    I could argue that Britain's main reason for hammering Turkey and helping win independence for the Arabs was that they wanted to get oil concessions from the latter immediately after the war. Given that, it's highly unlikely that Britain or France would have allowed the Ottoman Empire to continue in existence, unless they knew they could get the same concessions from the Sultan of Istanbul. Also, FYI, Britain precipitated the war with Turkey partly by keeping back some ships that had been being worked on in British shipyards in 1914, and were due for delivery back to Turkey. That wasn't the only reason Turkey went against Britain, but it didn't help matters.
