Have you heard of something like this before?

For the last two years in our country the Socialist party has had great success. No one of the old right wing parties could mach it.
And Socialist party [there are mostly USSR communists in it] got the most places in Riga [capital of Latvia] city ?government?. They are idiots and make many stupid mistakes, so I don’t worry about them much. Their voters are mostly old people and Russians wanting the USSR times to return. But enough of this.

To take socialists out of business a new right wing party was made. Their leader is the president of our National Bank, Einars Repse. A very popular man in our country, mostly because of the stability of our currency and good economical growth. Socialists had a scandal about their party financing (corruption and dirty business), so Einars Repse announced that he will candidate only then if people of Latvia will donate him 500 000Ls=820 000$ personally. And another 900 000Ls=1 475 410$
    for his party(election campaign)

His argument for this is, that he would then be completely
independent from all kinds of economical pressure(corruption). He says that the bank accounts will be completely transparent for people to see who donates, and they are, but I have a suspicion that he has other the people don’t know about. Altogether he wants 1 400 000Ls=2 295 082$. In our country we have only about
    2 500 000 citizens

So obviously if he candidates he will surely be financed by some of our companies, not ordinary citizens. ?Corruption?
Many are laughing (including me) and many others are truly shocked by this announcement. Do you imagine someone in your country to do something like this? What do you think of this?
