perhaps cron type jobs can do mundane stuff staff on hiatus most will not notice the sky will not fall sci putters along data is now required to back that up perhaps a snapshot of sci a wk/mths worth of writes wonder if there is a vbulletin script...view by infractions/banning/threads created/poster..... manual would be tedious
the sky will not fall...because there will be no one and nothing to fall it on. Moderators are needed like air to breath...they are essential in keeping balance within the site, otherwise we will have spammers using elaborate systems...curses all throughout...and people using "denial of service attacks" from time to time
Draqon: I think that reads as AYE forum. Could be an interesting and stimulating experiment where everything is kept from earshot of the admin. Call it the Hard of Hearing Forum.
I have been to several sites with little moderation. They're all fun and the people behave. Trolls are just banned. People with opinions can stay even when the mods/owners disagree with them. This is one of the most heavily moderated sites I have ever been on. That's why I'm so nice, modest, quiet, polite, and withdrawn here. Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
Sciforums is undermoderated, labouring heavily under the burden of its ultra-liberal ethos. Being realistic about it, if what is wanted is a serious science site, then 90% of the members should be banned permanently, with immediate effect - myself foremost among them. Infractions are a joke, and are treated as such by those on the receiving end - myself foremost among them. It's time to stop all the pussyfooting around. It's time to get tough. Put up or shut up, Sciforums.
The mods have just got back off , ease up and let a more liberal atmosphere of debating happen . The current regime is anti-debate more into dicipline and vendettas .
But the idea of having one subforum at Sciforums unmoderated probably could never be domiciliated: initially there would be an outburst of abuse and before anything is established the whole thing would turn into a comedyfest—and remain as one.
you gotta be kidding i see a setup where all take potshots at lil ole gustav and a fixed mind "well! just because it works there doesnt mean it will work here" be honest is that the endgame? far better is to simply assert that it is unworkable i would defer yet are you not curious? how about the stats i mentioned? can you datamine? for instance in a wks period, politics had x threads, y posts, z deletions, t infractions etc isolate mod actions and establish relationships with other variables if ratios are negligble....for every 1000 posts there have been x # of moderation. fire the mods if not hire some more
this thread was inspired by the goatman and his cohorts rhapsodying about the letter of the law even the much reviled police do better. for instance, the police academy teaches about intent. the spirit of the law lemme instruct on the humane and other associated despite gustav's fervent pleas for mercy. the goatman bleats...the law is the law. the consequences.. family evicted, wife relapses, kids in foster, eldest hooking how has society benefited by such PIGheadedness?
how do you know this? i wanna know if my perceptions about this place are rooted in actual fact *for instance most are unaware of flamefests until the mods get involved *they do die a natural death...relegation from page 1 etc
dear plazma inferno mod publishes a poster's ip mod complains to poster's isp where do you think you enter the equation that is, if at all
us? do you mean give me? since it is you considering sci admins have no choice but to stay away from us heaven forbid that it turns out there is an imbecile at the helm lurks and quick forays into sci poor things another perception rooted in conventional wisdom
