I guess I could post this under the Philosophy section, but anyway: In most arguments (specially religion and politics) there are 3 posters who participate: 1. Who agree with me. 2. Who disagree with me, also known as the losers club. 3. Neutral posters, for entertainment or annoyance. (like Baron Max) Now what is the purpose of interacting with these types?: 1. If you agree with me, there isn't there too much to discuss, actually mutual agreement makes boring discussions. Only positive value is to provide some extra info, what I have overlooked but I find interesing. 2. Personally, I don't have a problem with changing my mind. But it seldom happens, because I evaluate the topic objectively beforehand and I know the facts, or I know where to find them. Now, most people not like me, thus even when they are proven wrong, they still stick to their original standpoint, like their manhood would suffer if they say: oh I see, I was wrong. 3. This group doesn't add much value to the discussion, they can be disregarded. Soif I am not going to change my mind because I am most of the time correct, but my opponent also won't change his/her mind because unable to see the truth, then: What's the point of arguing? P.S.: This post is about arguments on OBJECTIVE subjects like religion and politics.... Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image! (and not subjects like art or style or morals)
If you had studied this sentence objectively, beforehand, you would have noticed that you left a verb out. I think you are: 4. Internet Narcissist who makes an ass of himself for thinking he's right all of the time and has an attitude with anyone who points out what a moron he is.
There are only 10 types of members, those who think binary, and those who don't. Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
i dont have an actual internet connection. i just scream the code really fast into the cable. im only up to 100mb/s, though....im still practicing. Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
What's up Swivel? Your ass still hurt from the slaping you got from me? Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image! Which one? You quoted 3, so I can't objectively evaluate it... By the way, I didn't say I was always right, I said most of the time. Also, just because I leave out a verb, it doesn't invalidate my point. So your non-argument objectively is an ad hominem. I think I will put you on Ignore for a while until you learn to make a point. Sayonara... P.S.: For the readers, Swivel is an excellent example for #2. He was unable to admit that Microsoft was/is a monopoly in certain areas, no matter how many arguments and FACTS we threw at him. So if he can't learn, what's the pont of educating him???
According to this website : http://redwing.hutman.net/~mreed/ there are many different types of forumites Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image! Its a really cool site called Flame Warriors, with amusing forumite character depictions.
Well, there could be other types, I only categorized them argument-wise. I see Max posted something, but I can't tell what because he is currently on Ignore. To be honest, he occasionally makes a few good points that I even agree with, but his annoyance ratio got so high lately, that I put him on Ignore for a while....
The above 4 posters in this case would belong to group #3, worthless bullshit, not contributing anything to the value of the thread. Thanks for playing guys...
I want to see Syzygys Ignore List. It must be full of all the people smarter than him that have driven him crazy by pointing out what a loon he is. Large club, I would guess.
Baron, why is it that every post by you is contradictions or things that neither contribute or take away from the thread?
And why does he sign his name after every post? We can see who posted without the John Hancock. So that's at least 5 types of posters now: 5. People that must sign every one of their posts, as if they have contributed to humanity's pool of knowledge in a significant way. Sadly, AAF, one of my favorite posters is a "Fiver". Who else does this? -swivel
Obviously you aren't smart enough to understand my posts. Perhaps if you took some time to think about them some, huh? Nawww, probably not! Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image! Baron Max
At least he admits that you don't take anything away from the threads either. And since you don't add anything, you somehow manage to leave each thread just as it was. And what more could you hope for?
You could always cobble together one of those pompous, longwinded farewell soliloquys wherein you declare solemnly that the place has become but a shadow of it's former, glorious self, you can no longer sully yourself by association with such a bunch of no-account nincompoops, and so in order to maintain your intellectual integrity, you must bring to a close the chapter of your life in which you sojourned here, lest the seedy tawdryness of all you survey cause you to suffer a vurp... ...or something...
