WASHINGTON, July 25 (HalliburtonWatch.org) -- Halliburton announced on Friday that its KBR division, responsible for carrying out Pentagon contracts, experienced a 284 percent increase in operating profits during the second quarter of this year.

The increase in profits was primarily due to the Pentagon's payment of "award fees" for what military officials call "good" or "very good" work done by KBR in the Middle East for America's taxpayers and the troops.

Despite the scandals that plague KBR's military contracts, the Pentagon awarded $70 million in "award" fees to the company, along with four ratings of "excellent" and two ratings of "very good" for the troop logistics work under the Army's LOGCAP contract.

The Pentagon has provided preferential treatment to Halliburton on a number of occasions, including the concealment from the public of critical reports by military auditors.

    Interesting...

-Half of their board of directors are owners or co-owners of oil/gas companies.

-KBR is their division which engineers and builds energy projects

Iraq lets America build privatized interest groups build on their land and steal their natural resources? I wonder who the real owners of Iraq are.

I don't believe that "scandals" are or should be used as evidence to convict anyone or any company. Since those were your own words above, can you prove any of the allegations against Halliburton? And if not, ...?

And if we CAN convict on just "scandals", wouldn't that be just peachy-keen?

Hmm, then the greater majority of humans are nazis! Companies are selected to build ships, planes, weapons, provide food and clothing, etc .....then hire regular ol' people to work in those factories *AND* pay them lots of money to do so. So, according to your statement, all of those people are nazis, huh?

Not nazis but slaves. It's "just a job" they say. "You have to make a living." And they are forced into a situation where their job may or may not be ethical.

Management comes closest to your "nazi" idea, but they're simply fascists - not necessarily behind the national movement in 1930s Germany and the eradication of all jews.

Is anyone else really, really tired of BMax not contributing anything worthwhile?

It wasn't MY idea, for god's sake!! Or didn't you read the post at all?

Who forces them into that job?

What is "worthwhile"? Is that only what YOU deemed worthy?

    - I know it wasn't your idea. You used it. In any case, this isn't the issue here.

    - We live in a society that requires you to have a job. If we lived in one where we lived in concert with nature, there would be no reason to work crappy we jobs we hate for food or shelter. However, that is far from what we have and as long as there are jobs that pay enough for food, shelter and a few frivalties, people are happy - not carring what their actual job entails.

    - No, it's that your posts add nothing to discourse. You simply come on here to flaunt your ego with assinine questioning, picking out flaws (creating strawmen out of technicalities) and distract from the topics at hand. In short, you don't play well with others.

I know of no law that says that we must have a job! Do you?

.....LOL!!! Geez, man, even the fuckin' cavemen had shelters, for god's sake! Where are you dreamin' up this senseless bullshit? Live in "concert with nature"? What the fuck is that? Is that where "nature" feeds you grapes one by one by hand? ....LOL!!

Hey, you wrote that shit, I just commented on it. So who is not contributing to the discourse? Or am I to just believe everything that's written on this forum?

And yes, I do play well .....but at the games that I like. If you don't like it, don't play with me.

Yes, and if one were to try that today, they would be thrown in jail for not paying property tax. In this country, no place is free, hence the requirement of a job. Sure, there's no law requiring one to have a job, but uh, almost anyone can put two and two together.

Well, I don't know if "love" is the right word, but he was voted into office by the people of the United States of America. By that vote, he has been elected as president and, as citizens of the USA, we should stand behind the will of the people .....ain't that what "democracy" is all about?

Or are you suggesting that civil wars should occur with every election for which you or others disagree?

If we, as citizens of the US, are not going to support our electorate, then why should anyone vote at all? Why not let anyone who wants to, become the president ......if we're all gonna' hate him and not support him?

How old am I? Uhh, 61, I think? When ye're an old fart, you seldom think about how old you are!! ...LOL!

Didnt the nazis force elections and other dubious pr events? Maybe im wrong, havent done history in years, and television documentaries only take you so far.
    Hilter = bush?
    what the hell is that?

and while it doesnt imply they are right or smart, then why do people blame them for so much if theyre only human. weak argument, but your spewing rubbish too.

and if someone made money, good for them. what else are they going to do... loose money so you dont whine? and if your insinuating they started it to make profit, still, good for them. they are buissnesmen, they are there to make profit. profit = good.

and really, the amount of beurocratic shit that goes on, its hard to phoney up a war. no matter what you say. and whatever else your going to say, please dont bother since i wont be here to refute it, but trust me, youll be wrong

This is understandable but not justifiable.

    In unethical situations,
If soldiers downed tools, if workers said get stuffed......

where would the petty hittlers be ?

But the most important question here is

What has happened to "normal" people's conscience and empathy for their fellow humans ?

and if you think enormous profits do not affect us all, think again
because more money in fewer hands drives up prices for all of us.

I'm convinced that that's an old wives tale or a silly fantasy that's found it's way into mainstream society. People do NOT have "conscience" or "empathy", those are just slogans to make us PRETEND to feel bad when we really don't!!

If you want "proof", check the entertainment expenditures for the average western family as compared to their expenditure for "charity" - i.e., helpiing their fellow humans. There are a gazillion kids starving to death all over the world ....while we, in the west, dine out on fine food and watch violence on movies and on TV.

    Wow... just, wow.

Right, last I checked Bush didn't win by a 100% vote so whatever he does almost half the country would be disagreeing with it. You can't say thats not true, because it is... that's why Bush won by 1.3%. HUGE MAJORITY THERE BARON!

No you're absolutely correct. Because taking the moment to imagine that maybe if you hadn't been born to white, american, money earning parents, you just might not be reading this right now. In fact, you'd probably be dead. Of course that's nothing to be thankful for, the fact that you don't have to do jack shit or work to feed the rest of your family. Empathy is not about "feeling bad", it's about appreciating what you have. And obviously you are taking everything you have for granted.
