I get a magzine called Populer Scieance, and this month it holds a little inf on a plane with few emisions. it mixes jet A fuel with biodesial and it could be done. a second thought for a mach 5 plane is use hydrogen

Popular Science is not the best quality magazine. They often give lip service to green issues while ignoring the reality of peak oil and global warming. The Hydrogen economy is one of the biggest fantasies of all.

NASA's experimental space plane, the X-43A, set a new speed record for aircraft on November 16, 2004. In the unmanned test flight, the plane reached Mach 10 -- 10 times the speed of sound, or about 6,600 miles (10,600 kilometers) per hour. This flight broke the previous speed record of Mach 7, set in March 2004 by the X-43A in a previous test flight.

What sets the X-43A apart from other rocket-powered aircraft is that it is powered by a scramjet engine. Instead of using onboard oxygen to combust the hydrogen fuel, the scramjet scoops up oxygen as it travels through the atmosphere. By eliminating the need for onboard oxygen, cutting the weight of the spacecraft, the X-43A could lead to cheaper Earth-to-orbit space travel.

This could be my last airplane. I hope to primarily power one of these using solar modules on her trailer, for all the paid-forward flying I desire in my retirement.

Nice looking sailplane and a great idea as well! :)

Thanks. It's such a beautiful dream, I'm tempted to cash in my gas-guzzling planes right now, and just go for it- 100LL is passing $5/gal.

But I still have a lot of restoration work to finish, and I still have some noisy tearing up the sky to work out of my system yet.
