That is a notable thread indeed- Ghassan Kanafani raised the bar of discussion there to a rare degree. It's even more rare around here (and in any other fora I've dabbled in) for such exemplary original posts to garner sustained and sincere discussion: Those who agree with the opening thesis are hard-pressed to keep it lively in the absence of opposition, and those who do not agree typically introduce distractions and/or shrink from the discussion entirely.

It is frustrating how supporters of zionism invariably ignore, side-step, or attempt to divert debates that rise to such specificity of thought. But it's in the nature of sociopolitical disease to recoil from reason.

Because systems of apartheid can only persist in the shadows of thought, away from the light of reason, overt and covert separatists and supremacists of the zionist persuasion are always uncomfortable in that light. And that behavior reveals the very kernel of the entire Zionist-Arab impasse: The solution to the seemingly intractible conflict over zionism in the Levant (and of apartheid anywhere) waits for a critical mass of humanity to recognize, reflect, and rekindle sufficient light of reason to deny supremacist thought the shadows that it breeds in. Peace isn't waiting for a Palestinian-Israeli process to lurch forward. Peace and reconciliation are awaiting sufficient dawning of reason on every shore of this integrating planet, that will banish forever the shadows that ideologies of separatism require. With every discussion of the caliber that Ghassan initiated, the light of reason gains a little ground.

This is not idealism, but an observation of the trend of humanity from our origins into the future. A few rare discussions define the line between night and day. Once, most of our forebears killed those not of their own clans on sight, and kept themselves apart. That dark past is inexorably receding, but it's still a long time before the dawn.

indeed.
what is also interesting is the reasons (of various supporters) for their support of zionism, and the factors upon which this support is based on

[quote]But it's in the nature of sociopolitical disease to recoil from reason.
or worse, fabricate elaborate justifications.

Because systems of apartheid can only persist in the shadows of thought, away from the light of reason,
as anyone with a modicum of reason, intelligence and objectivity would agree, yet it's appauling how support for such systems reaches even the upper echelons of "regular" politics.
maggie thatcher and her sugar daddy ronnie regan deamed mandela as a "terrorist" back in the glorious 80's remember??

overt and covert separatists and supremacists of the zionist persuasion are always uncomfortable in that light.
you think?
hmmm, i thihk they're quite comfortable within the walls of their delusional fabricated castles of justification.

one can but hope.
although i think quite a significant mass of humanity recognizises the truth, but whether these opinions make the mass media (esp in usa) is another matter...

yet the supporters still refuse to accept reasonable arguments laid before them

i'm more pessamistic.

Best thread ever posted?!?!? :bugeye:

Hardly. It looked more like the ramblings of a schizophrenic, maniac (ie. someone suffering from mania) or obsessive-compulsive person who is off their meds.
