I was recently having a discussion with some friends of mine about the possible reasons for minorities (this is generally speaking of course) not doing as well in school. This problem escalates to minorities not having well paying jobs and things of this nature. Why exactly do you think minorities do not do as well in school?
Well if your parents were struggling minorities themselves then there's a good chance they couldn't afford things like colleges or good books. Less educated parents will most be able to help their children less, and also pass down their "learning ethic". Also if you are an immigrant minority or if your parents were immigrants, a lot of school deals with needing to know the language and culture very fluently.
It also has to do a lot with sociological reasons...you'd be surprised at how differently below middle class thinks as opposed to even middle class or white collar class.Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
Bullshit. Look at the asian minorities. I get jealous and annoyed to see them score perfect 100s in everything they do. It is WORK and STUDYING. That is IT. Nothing more, nada, zippo, zero, zilch. Spend 6 hours a day doing homework and YOU WILL do GREAT in school. Simple as that. End of discussion.

F**k em' (The rich that is) Jerrek, That is bullshit. You know it, I know it. I could study four hours a day and pass all my classes with A's. But what about time? Most rich people have time because they are just that; rich. I have no time. Most minorities have to work to get money to go to school. They have no time to study four hours a day. Im working my way through college. I have to, Im poor. I can only manage a 2.0 at that because college can be expensive. I have no way to pay for $5 sheets of printing paper for my graphics classes. Last time I did that I failed a class because I couldn't afford it. Also, I don't have time. I work, and work, and work. After I get out of school: straight to work. I get very little sleep and it annoys me when rich people have all the time, and money, in the world to waste away at doing nothing. Im in the break room at school (It's a private college that I worked hard to get into) and the rich fuckers are sitting around drinking starbucks coffee and bitching about how the teachers treat them. Shit, Im sitting there drinking my cheap 25 cent cup of coffee from the vending machine rushing through my homework because I have to go to work and work a double shift. It's not only about money, its about time. My parents don't pay for shit because they're as broke as I am. So fuck these rich fuckers that think that minorities get enough money for college. I think a lot of it has to do with peer pressure. It's just not cool to be a smarty so rather than be ostracized these people never push themselves to try any harder.
Of course I do, but that wasn't what the topic was about, was it? College is indeed a bit different than high school. But in high school no one has any excuse for not having a 3.0 GPA at the very least unless you have serious disorders.
Sorry. I thought that this thread was about college and minorities. Well, they do still have an excuse. Some students do have to work. Ya know, to help out the family. Some students are just lazy. Some have it in their minds that they have no hope. It's a sad thing. But luckily they wake up and say "College". Or not. It still all depends on the situation. Im thinking that minorities do pretty damn good in highschool. There are a lot of white people out there. Half of them probably fail, half of them probably pass. But there are few minorities. Thats why they're minorities. So when half of them fail, it looks bad. When in reality, it's normal. Just stop comparing them to all the white people. That'll show that the numbers are normal. Okay, don't listen to me. Im drunk.:~)
