The good things in solaris will eventually be ported to linux.

Basically compared to Linux and the BSDs, it has no significant advantages.

I've used Solaris a fair bit. Like Xerxes said, no significant adavantage over Linux, unless you just want to chalk up 'Solaris' experience on your CV (Resume).

For personal use, Linux woud be more fun, as there are more apps. But what the hell, do it, play with and see for yourself.

There is a small tool you can download to verify your hardware will run the x86 version, before downloading the several GB's of install media you need. Worth trying first to save you some time.

In fact, I might have to do this, I have spare hardware, and I haven't played with Solaris 10, .... thanks for the prompt!
