The Obama effect is largely the result of interracial marriage. If you look up the statistics you'll see that white people are the most racist group, and we also see white men having the lowest rate of inter-racial marriage among all groups. The exact statistic can be seen from this wikipedia quote here:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Interracial_marriage

The problem with black America is that black women have nobody to mate with, and white men refuse to marry black women, and of course you don't see black women marrying white men either. Only 120,000 white men have a black wife. Yet white men make up the majority of the male population in the country and there are probably more single white men than there are black women in the USA married, single or otherwise.

Wikipedia states that white men in interracial marriages prefer to marry Asian women. And while white men and white people in general make up 80 percent of the US population, only 1% of white Americans are in an interracial marriage. A direct quote from Wikipedia"Caucasian Americans are the least likely to marry interracially"

On the other hand, 6% of African Americans are in interracial marriages. So this should tell us a lot, it means white Americans are still more racist, because the statistics don't lie. If interracial marriage isn't popular among white Americans but is popular among African Americans, it means African Americans are trying to and are simply being rejected/ignored.

In some cases these African Americans could be the kind worth marrying, and many white Americans still would rather marry a complete loser alcoholic womanizer(completely illogical behavior), because at least he's white? Or perhaps he'd rather marry her even though she's not smart or educated(completely illogical), but at least shes white?

And there you have the problem, you have African Americans who are educated with masters degrees and even Phds, who cannot find husbands and wives, and so less African Americans get married. And because less African Americans get married the income is a lot less.

I see two solutions, arranged marriage and interracial marriage. In an arranged marriage situation, two educated people from good families get paired up in an arranged marriage, this guarantees protection of the family wealth through the future generations and also guarantees that the family moves up the social ladder (social mobility). The other solution is interracial marriage, as more families marry interracially, racism as a force becomes less potent. So it's fair to say that the people who are most against interracial marriage are the most racist, whether it's subconsciously racist or consciously racist.

Obama proves that race can be overcome through interracial marriage, at least overcome enough to run for President and possibly even win. But interracial marriage is still far too rare to have any impact on society, so we cannot expect racial inequality to end as long as interracial marriage makes up 2% of marriages among white Americans, thats so ridiculously low that it doesn't seem like white Americans even attempt to do it when compared to the 6% of African Americans doing it, and factoring in that African Americans make up a much smaller portion of the overall population, it says something.

Asian American men also have the same problem with interracial marriage as seen by the statistics. If progress can be judged by pairing up the best and smartest, the lack of progress can be indicated by the fact that the best and smartest almost never pair up, and this is usually due to racism, or other illogical reasons. So while it makes sense for an individual who has say, a Phd, to pair up with someone else who has a Phd, if that individual cares more about race than education, intelligence or all other factors, they'll probably end up marrying a person with no degree at all as opposed to marrying interracially the person with similar intelligence and education. It's illogical, but this is what happens.

If people married logically, then the more educated a person becomes the more likely they'd be to marry interracially. This would mean that an African America for example, once they reach college, should be more likely to marry a European American simply because there are more educated Eurpean Americans than any other group. So why doesn't this happen more often? It has to be because a larger portion of educated European Americans are choosing to marry within their own race even at the cost of marrying an individual with a lower education level or perhaps no education at all. This is why you see relationships where you have a white man and white woman, with the man having a Phd, and the woman just having a highschool Diploma. Or in some cases the man just has a bachelors degree and she has a highschool diploma. Or the typical example where he has a masters degree and she has a bachelors.

If he were "logical", he would choose another woman with a masters degree, a Phd, or even a woman with an education level BEYOND his own, even if that woman weren't white. The only conclusion is that his behavior is illogical and irrational. The Obama exception is actually a rare exception to the rule of "to each his own".
