There is a famous quote of Vince Lombardi. "Winning isn't everything, winning is the only thing." I have heard it many times over the years, and I still can't figure out the distinction he was making. Any thoughts?
In so many words 8 is right. He was definitely a die hard! It means if you want to win, really and truly want to win, then there is room for nothing else. No if's, maybes, buts, or close calls. No excuses. Bssically it means he wants to win. The word "everything" is pretty general, the "Only thing" is well, right to the fucking point!
Here's an example, inspired by Moementum's avatar: If Vince Lombardi were the coach of the Avs, he'd have been happy about Todd Bertuzzi nearly crippling Steve Moore. Why? Well, losing Steve Moore isn't a huge loss for the Avs ... Moore'll probably never amount to more than a third or fourth line player in the league. Bertuzzi, on the other hand, is one of the elite players in the league. Hence, if Moore and Bertuzzi are both off the ice, it's good for the Avs. EDIT: Reached a conclusion.

C'mon guys. You have fallen prey to one of the biggest mistakes one can make and we do it on almost a daily basis...because it is easier than finding out if what you are saying is even true. Assumption. Keep in mind the ass-u-me quote for a change. At least that won't hurt you. The internet is filled with infomration that with just a little bit of effort and time you can find out if you're even on the right path. Vince Lombardi is so often misquoted on this line it is completely idiotic how often people discuss this. He did NOT say what you wrote - he said: "Winning is not everything, but wanting to win is." People just love to perpetuate the misquote because it is all their numbed brinas can remember and after all, few care to get it right. Go forth and stop being a part of the problem. Want to win.
