Can we change the forum title back to Computer Science? CS sounds formal compared to computers and technology. Why was this change made? The new title makes this section sound general and vague.

The reason for the mergence was that both forums contain very similar things, so it was seen that there was no point having two forums with the same contents in.

I think this new combined sub-forum should be called "Computer Science" or maybe "Computer Sci/Tech" not "Computers & Technology" because computers where such a big subject and technology is jam back with possible topics the result is this sub-forum that will get very overloaded with a variety of different topics from "newest in laser eye surgery" to "Halflife2 vs DoomIII!"

Would like to see a Technology sub-forum again though such as "General Science & Technology"

I agree, we should change the forum name to "Computer Science". And a description on the front page like the other forums is needed. A description that includes keywords such as "algorithms", etc.

The point is not the one you mention Stryder.The point is the concept of Comp Sci forums poor moderation.Nothing personally against though.But the material that is related to computer science was there jumbled up with nerd culture's.No moderation or removal of posts was done on the posts that asked hardware questions or something like my notepad is sucking or my computer quails when i run certain games or May be what to do ,i wanna assemble a PC...?is amd ok?...which is rubbish,this straggled the whole forum in a admonishing way.I have adulation for the subject itself.But most people here dont really understand the subject.Computer Science in theoritical and conceptual subject,You have to have a certain fixed knowledge to participate in good quality discussions.For example even in nerd cultures only postings like Gaming etc as to how to cheat is popular,but not the posts like Quantum computers.Even if the posts were started they died their natural death because of dearth of knowledgable discussion being available,Which is disappointing.I have aways held the notion Science Forums posters different from other forums since they are intelligent enough.

Computer Science should be a separate forums.The subject is different from what people would like to think.
Dynamically changing the forum looks might help in reviving the interest in forums.But let us not forget that this a place where we enjoyed most,since it gave us an intellectual satisfaction.I fail to see that here.Some good members i see are or havent been posting for a long long time.Why?... its time to think...

bye!

oh and BTW disgusting enough it may sound for some but Parapsychology is a forum that should be separate from Pseudoscience,when you do know that latter simply is dependant of the former.

bye!

Well the forums have been merged now, although Since there is a trend towards people wanting the Serious Technological computer stuff split from the Gamerz, perhaps it was hastey to merge.

What if the forum continued it's Double barreled name, and the a Sub forum was placed within it.

So the overall Nerd forum is the first open place where you can then access more Technological one?

Also if it's done this way, What Identifying information should accompany each forum name?

Thanks For replying.

I think Sub Forum Idea should work out.
i googled the computer science definition and got this :

The systematic study of computing systems and computation. The body of knowledge resulting from this discipline contains theories for understanding computing systems and methods; design methodology, algorithms, and tools; methods for the testing of concepts; methods of analysis and verification; and knowledge representation and implementation.

So that could help a bit.
Nerd Culture should have a Gaming sub^2 forum and a separate Technology forum so that there is an order in terms of posting.I think Nerd Culture's should have Emerging technologies Forum too,but i think that might be taking the whole scenario too far.
so what we should have is:

Two main Sub Forums Under the main Computers and Technology :

-------------->Computer Science(sub headings like design and Analysis of algorithms,Concepts, Programming Logic(logic is important to write!), programming Languages etc you could add a few more)
-------------->Nerd Culture
|
|
|--------------->Gaming Forums(having sub headings like Development, scripting, tweaks, patches, strategies etc)

|---------------->Technology Forum
( having sub headings like Emerging computing technologies,storage devices,CPUs,Overclocking etc,you know a few more than myself i know )

thanks for your time.
bye!

Not only that, but computer science has less to do with actual computers and more to do with theory behind it. A great number of algorithms still in use today came out of mathematical work, before the computer was invented. I think it was hasty. There have been multiple times that I've volunteered to mod the CS forum, but whomever it would be, all the CS forum needed was a good mod to keep it clean and help users put their posts in the right place.

Can't agree more AntonK. I'll leave you all with a favorite of mine:

Are we going to change the forum title or what? "Computers & Technology" is beginning to look lame.

I propose we change the title of this forum to "Computer Science." The "Nerd Culture" forum has it's place too. Although, I think the name should be changed to something else. We should split the forum up into two again and have better moderation.
