I had a freind once who rewrote poe's 'the raven' into 'the reagan'.
Man I wish I had a copy of that still. funny as hell.
Anyway, I saw something about a rap battle thread, but with out beats and whatnot, most of it just read like poetry. So how about this: Take a poem, and make a parody of it. Use whatever for subject matter. Lets just have a bit of fun, and not try to make them too personal. OK?

    'The Gendanken'
(based on the jaberwocky by lewis carrol)

'Twas brilliant, and the slinking threads
    Did grow and grumble in their ways;
    All ditsy were the pseudo-scis,
    And the mod's wraths unstayed.

    "Beware the Gendanken, my son!
The quips that bite, the points that catch!
Beware the Spurious Monk, and shun
    The furious Goofyfish!"

He took Ockham's Razor in hand:
Long time the crackpot foe he sought--
So posted he in the Philosophy,
And stayed awhile in Free Thoughts.

And, as in nihilist thought he stood,
The Gendanken, with eyes of flame,
Came skimming through the Free Thoughts thread,
    And posted as it came!

One two! One two! And through and through
    Ockham's Razor went snicker-snack!
He left it beat, and with its defeat
    He went triumphing back.

"And hast thou tamed the Gendanken?
Come to the boards, my learned boy!
    O wonderous day! Callooh! Callay!"
    He chortled in his joy.

'Twas brilliant, and the slinking threads
    Did grow and grumble in their ways;
    All ditsy were the pseudo-scis,
    And the mod's wraths unstayed.

A writer named Burgess wrote a spoof on "A Tale of Two Cities" as a "Sale of Two Titties"

.......and that's all I have to say for now since I can't insta-proselytize like some people.

So, poetry not being my forte
I'm leaving this thread feeling thwarted
    but give me some time
    I'll churn out some rhyme
may'st make our Mephurio feel toady and warted

    (ha!)

Not my best effort, to be sure, but its hard to find suitable inspiration anymore.
(Based on 'CANIS MAJOR' by Robert Frost)

    The great Gendanken,
    Who so hastily posts
With no thought in her words
    And the substance of ghosts.
    She namedrops always
All the way to the end
    And never once touches
    On sound logic again.
I'm not as well read then,
    But to-night I will post
    With the great Gendanken
    That thinks less than most.

    Balls in you court gendanken..

(based on Petruchio's dialogue in Shakespeare's
'Taming of the Shrew' act IV scene 1)

Thus have he politicly begun his feign
How fools durst think they'll end successfully
"My falcon", say he " I'll beat and run her dry
another way I have to tame my falcon
Make her come and know her keeper's cry."

Yet watches he as boys do kites
That bate and beat and will not be obedient
He eat small meat today, and small meat he beat
Last night he slept not, in all does get not
    A habit past repeat.
This way to the poem thread!, another to defeat
Ay, amid his folly shall our fool forget his meat!

And in conclusion shall we watch all night
    a weary rose, a thorn'd plight
And the clamor keep the mods awake
    with toothy verbs that bite

To think he'll curb with mindness
when all hath he is mindless
He knows not better how to tame a shrew.
    Feigns he poetic shyness?
    Ay, loathsome rotten slyness!
Now bid her speak here too:

Sure as do, as days do new,
will you, nill you, oh Mephurio, a shrew will bury you.

    Edit: HA!

I see someone decided to raise the playing field a bit...
small bits by carrol and frost rate retaliation from passages of shakespeare, eh?
well I guess I'll actually have to think a bit now.

    You want old school?
    I'll give you old school!

The Book of Mephura chapter 23 verses1-6

    (Psalms 23 1-6)

1 The Gendanken is my opponent; I shall not loose.
2 She maketh me to lie down my reasoned thoughts: she speaketh to me in undistilled nonsence.
3 She draineth my brain: she leadeth me down the paths of idiocy for her name's sake.
4 Yea, though I reason through the threads of the posts of the dumb, I will fear no concession: for thou art witless; thy tantrums and thy rantings they ammuse me.
5 Thou name drop and quote before me in the presence of mine own ideas: thou fillest your head with verses; my mind runneth over with thought.
6 Surely logic and reason shall lead me all the days of my life:and I will rage against the house of the Gendanken for ever.

    AMEN!!!!

    To gendanken with love

    (shakespeares sonnet #38)

How can my Mind want subject to object,
While thou dost post, that pour'st into my threads.
Thine own sweet argument, too asinine
For every vigilant mod to peruse?
O! give thyself to thanks; if not for me
    No worthy rebuttal would stand against thy slights;
For who's so dumb that cannot write like thee,
When thou thyself dost give idiocy new light?
Be thou the tenth Muse, ten times worse in worth
    Than those old nine which thinkers invocate;
And he that calls on thee, let him bring forth
Endless blather to outlive long date.
If my slight Muse dost please your curious ways,
Then let point be mine, and thine shall be but praise.

Mine is from a song.....the song is appropiataly named "guyute"..and was written by Phish.....well here goes nothing.....by the way, go on and hum along if you know the tune...

    Mephura has a lovely post....
this spoof song comes from story of the ghost....
    Gendanken learns some other tricks....
but she is not of the age of six......

like fighting mephura in this post....
and pulling words from out her throat....
she wrote to mephura with furious rage...
then scampered quickly to the free thoughts range..

well, as you can see i am not to skilled in the poetry department....well i tried....(this has been dedicated to mephura)...

    Poetry and lyrics now...

    Wonderful.
While I may not know much of classic verse, if we are going to the musical field that should level things quite a bit. Much thanks Guyute.
