Surely you can think of something good that the US has done since 1945?

Seriously, though, Americans aren't bad. The US has its problems, just like every other nation.

How about the billions in Financial and Humanitarian Aid that not only our government hands out but also individual citizens?

When they let millions of their own citizens live below the poverty line, sleep on the streets and without healthcare it seems a little silly. Charity begins at home and all.

I don't think the US is that bad either, but it's not as great as some people make out. It just seems that the slightest bit of criticism, regardless of whether or not there is any truth in it, seems to get Americans' backs up and they'll tell you that you're wrong and the US is great. Everything the US has ever done is great and any criticism levelled at it could only be down to jealousy. It is arrogance.. that's all it can be.

No, the UK isn't great. It's got a fair few problems. Nowhere is great, but most people can take it and maybe agree with criticisms about their country. Is it blind patriotism or blind belief for the average US citizen who wants to defend their country on the net? I can't figure it out. There is something that strikes me about the US, but I can't put my finger on it.

Poor Americans. Maybe once you change your President the world will regain respect for you...

Yes, I know the 'spelling genie" was let out of the bottle and ran its course early in this thread---- but I couldn't resist.

Apparently the [ENC]American[/ENC] [ENC]indoctrination[/ENC] factory leaves little room for criticism of the greatest [ENC]nation[/ENC] in the [ENC]universe[/ENC].

I'm American, and even I bash America.

    A couple of noteworthy Americans:
    Noah Webster
    John C. Hodges

Actually, tell me what is wrong with defending your nation from having it's name drug through the dirt. I mean yes we are not perfect, but we do far more right than we do wrong, especially when you take media with a grain of salt.

yea right. when has america done ANYTHING purely to help people, and not to benefit from it somehow?

and dont drag up that BS about WW2. not only had the allies been making ground long before you guys decided it was convenient to join in. but even if the three powers did win, what would be the great loss?

Maybe that nation shouldn't do the things that put a blemish on its 'name'. Ever think about that?

I suggest we make a thread on why Americans are so bad at writing.

Great American contributions: Hamburger, French fries, cokes (both) and the nuclear bomb.

    P.S.: Apple pie too.

Just a friendly bit of advice, good things are all very nice, but they don't negate the bad.

And you could always take it as constructive criticism and begin by improving your own education.

My biggest problem with Americans is their dress sense, American men in particular have a horrible dress sense. As the most powerful nation on Earth, the only superpower and all that, you’d expect a lot more from them.

dress sense? Is that the queen's english for "fashion sense"?

Americans stole the best german scientists and created NASA. That was the best thing they did since Guatalcanal.
